With Uncle Sam owing me some money, I'm gonna buy a CAI. From looking at the board, most people are getting the Injen. I was wondering where to go to get a good price. Overboost.com has them for $247.50. I also saw someone saying ebay had some. Are those trustworthy?

Thanx,

sundevil, thanx!! Quick question, though. When it says "polished", does that mean the piping is just stainless steel whereas "red" and "blue" have the piping painted?

Thanx,

the polished injen has the stainless piping and red connectors...and the injen logo is red...so the polished still has a little red in it..just not as much

thanx, again. When my check comes in, I'll definately get the polished from adventon

the tubing is not STAINLESS STEEL...its ALUMINUM....but it still looks perty!

Would it be a good idea to get the AEM bypass valve? I live in GA and sometimes it'll rain pretty hard. Or would the "shield" be ok from Injen?

I had mine installed at Injen by the R&D tech and asked the same question for the sheild and he said no. Since the cone is in the bumber cavity, or whatever he called it, it's perfectly protected from the elements, ie rain, snow etc. Of course I really made him raise an eyebrow when I asked about driving in water that may get sucked up. He calmly told me that if I was driving in water deep enough to get sucked up into the engine through his CAI then I shouldn't be driving. After the look on his face I thought he was about to tell me he would personally wring my neck if I did something that stupid, but he spared me. In the end, my red powder coated CAI is as tight as they get. AWESOME!!

Marty...can you go to any body shop to get powder coat? Can you buy it retail?

Powder coating is done by a specialist. No home kits. For a intake it would cost $60.00 - $80.00 on Long Island. Just shop around.

Why you all pay $200+ for something, when there is a comparible alternitive for around $40, it completely beyond me.....:D

would you buy $10 sunglasses just because they are a "cheaper alternative" to oakleys or bausch & lomb? why on earth would you do that to your eyes? same goes for the car, i think. injen did its research, they are a company who backs up their products, and they have dyno numbers to prove things. so between the CAI and the SRI from AEM, i chose the CAI because of the way it looks, not because it performed better. i know i'm paying for a name, but that name reassures me it has been tested and proven to work.

if you really wanted to go cheap, you could go to home depot and find all the parts you are looking for for about $20 plus the cost of a generic cone filter from pep boyz for $8. why spend $40?

Eh, never felt the need to pay more than $20 for sunglasses. Doubt I ever will. Oakley's don't work any better than a $20 pair of polarized wal-mart sunglasses. IMHO Intakes make such a small diffrence anyway, then I don't see a reason to pay an extra $180+ for something that works marginally better if any better at all. But if you want to spend that much go right ahead, I'll just never understand why. Function over form.

Yes you could make one for cheaper, but it's unlikely it would look professional. The one's off e-bay I've seen, and the one I have look very professional.

Just out of curisoty, what gains has Injen dyno proven with their intake? I havn't been able to find a dyno chart from it.

KYRED brings up a good point. But, quality wise, how good are the kits off of ebay? Have you noticed anything with yours? The Injen one, does look very nice, but I don't know if it's worth $200.

I had my mind all set on the Injen...now you guys had to get me thinking about it again. :D

Thanx, though.

In regards to paying the premium. Yes the Injen is more expensive, but in my opinion it's the best looking and only true "CAI" that takes air from outside the engine compartment on the market. And for those of us in California we can't go with the cheapies on ebay because they don't have CARB numbers if we want to stay smog legal. So I basically had 2 choices, AEM or Injen. Both have comparable power gains, but I went with the Injen because I think it looks better.

Not a problem. They're all made of the same thing T-304. Fits nicely. Only thing you might want to go to Lowes or somewhere for a better mounting bracket. Other than that it's much better than I expected. IMHO I'd rather pay $40 for 1whp than $200 for 2-3whp. It's all about cost/power ratio. :D
