What kind of work do you do?
Australia currently has a really low employment rate (lowest in almost a decade I think).

I'm Darryl btw.
I live in Brisbane, Queensland.
I'm in the middle of moving places atm.

i work in IT at a large insurance company. business interests me more than IT itself so i'm in a leadership development program to get into IT management instead of coding and that crap. i have ~1.5 years left in that program but i can leave early, my next role will put a few consultants under me so i'll have a little management experience

(hrmmm maybe i should moderate in here more often....didn't even notice this thread....whoops)

Brisbane - born and bred ;)

jred321: don't move to Melbourne ;)

but isn't victoria the place to be? or at least i think that was their tourism campaign when i was there :)

brisbane is too hot, i spent a week there and in surfer's. way too hot for me. i lived in melbourne for ~7 weeks in college, much closer to the climate i like

surfers isn't brisbane :P

but yeah, the qld heat can get people big time...

Hell i've been living in QLD all my life, and i went up to north qld for my honeymoon and nearly died up there...but thats the tropics so i guess its to be expected.

good thing about living in a hot state though, is really mild winters - it hardly ever gets truely cold here. Occasionally it'll drop down to a reasonably chilly temperature, but if you are made of tougher stuff you can usually get away with wearing shorts all year.

Melbourne is ok, but queenslanders will bag every where that isn't in queensland. Victoria and NSW are probably our biggest "rivals" - so they cop a bit of flack from us. You should at least move to a state that plays rugby league - i know melbourne have the storm, but its mostly made up of queensland players anyway ;)

so yeah, victoria is the place to be, if you like cold, damp and miserable, and if you don't mind not having a decent drag strip anywhere near you :P

surfers isn't brisbane :P
i know, but that's where we flew into and out of. we spent the night there our last night just wandering around because our flight was early and we didn't want to pay for a hotel room. we ended up at the casino all night.

i live in new england over here where we have real winters and it gets cold. queensland is like florida here and i have no desire to move there. fine for vacation, not for me every day.

aussie rules > rugby, and victoria is the place to be for that ;)

Haha... we got the brisbane lions, and soon a gold coast team in the AFL starting up....

and you'll need to learn the differences between rugby and rugby league...

good to know you have got some appreciation of our sports though.... with real men that don't need to wear full body armour :P

we went to a bunch of AFL games when we were there, MCG was like a 10 minute walk from where we lived and there was a liquor store on the way. it was great. even brought home a st kilda jersey. brisbane sucked when i was there so they didn't really count as a team as far as i was concerned ;) i wish they televised AFL games here, they're fun to watch once you know what's going on (which doesn't take very long). every once in a while i'll catch a bit of a game on a random sports channel at like 3AM but i hardly ever see it.

i prefer sports where people don't wear much padding, i grew up playing soccer and still play in men's leagues. def would've played rugby or aussie rules if i grew up there

Was just there for three months, so prob won't be back for a year & a half or so. I started a thread in the aussie forum saying I was coming over, but didn't get any replies. I'll defiantly be in Brissy at least a few days next time. Hey, maybe some of you were at winternats with me? Anyhow, next time I'm over lets go drive some supercars at willowbank or Morgan Park!
