Where are all the CX-9's on the road?

:
2011 CX-9 GT AWD
I'm in the PA/NJ/MD/DE area.

For comparison, I mainly see Lexus, Toyota, Honda, Volvo, American counterparts to the 9.

For a care ranked so well, I'm surprised I see so few on the road (in my experience, at least) -one here or there on an odd day, here or there.

Is this because Mazda has a smaller production run than the bigger companies? Just the geographic stats for my region or ....? Just curious.

A bunch here in the south. On our vacation last week going through SC, Ga, TN and NC, my wife was frustrated at number of white CX-9s on the road the same color as ours. We saw at least 7 or 8 pearl white and over 10 of other colors. I told her white is the color to have for safety and specially the hot climate in the south.

Really depends on region. Mazda does build fewer cars than the big three japanese makers. There are a ton of CX-9's in NE/Boston area and I also saw quite a few in Colorado. Supposedly Mazda is very happy with CX-9 sales, though they always wish to sell a little more. Mazda will never be a large volume seller and judging by their new "what do you drive" commerical, really don't want to be. They'd rather sell fewer to "more discerning consumers". Which is fine with me. More exclusivity.

South Florida's crawling with 9s, mainly sports and GTs with a fair touring representation...color choices run the whole spectrum but there does seem to be a preponderance of blacks.

Imagine back in 2008 when I got mine, I probably saw one other CX9 every few weeks.
Now, I see at least one every day.

Yeah Mazda definitely hit the target with the 9. Not so much with the 6, though I cannot fathom why. I just came back from vacation and was stuck with a Ford Fusion. While it drove well, the interior was the absolute pits. Gave me so much more respect for what Mazda did with the 6. The 9 and 6 are knocking on the door of more exclusive marques, not becasue they use the best materials, but because their design and fit and finish as well as attention to detail is top-notch. The Fusion and other Japanese competitors have poor fit and finish by comparison. The Fusion had huge gaps between plastic parts and the dashboard looked and felt cheap IMO.

Case in point. Yesterday I took a friend to the airport, a 25 minute ride from my house. In that short period of time, I saw 7 CX9s...5 black and 2 white. Dealers can't keep these babies on their lots.

Just got back from a weekend trip to AC with the wife (sans kid & dog), and we saw a TON of '9's on the Garden State Parkway. Guess it's all where you live

I have had mine from Sicily to Sardinia and up through Tuscany, Umbria, Le Marche, and Abruzzo here in Italy and have only saw CX-7s. The 9 is not sold here as they are large for the roads. Only one other American has a 9 here in Naples and it seems to be a 2010 (smiley face grill).

Do you get "attitude" from the locals because of your wide ride or do they not really give a damn?

Soth Florida is full

Broward County in South Florida have plenty of CX9, from Boca Raton to Coral Springs to Aventura you will easily find easily any color on the communities and the road.

I am a believer. On my recent trip to the UK, where the CX7 and CX9 are practically non-existent, I had intended to get to Italy as well but only got as far as Paris. Many roads there are narrow and congested and seem to be populated primarily with mid-sized to small German and French vehicles and an occasional American gas-guzzler. What I did notice though was that there was no shortage of motorcycles...thousands and thousands of motor bikes...EVERYWHERE...parked in clusters and on the move!

I don't get attitude here because the Mafia drives big SUVs as well ;). In fact it helps in the road game of chicken here. Stop signs and lights mean nothing here so whoever has the bigger vehicle and can keep their foot on the gas the longest usually goes first. It doesn't always work though, evident by the amount of beaters on the road, and insurance is 3x as much as in the US.

Mopeds are big here and they drive them nuts. They drive in between cars on the autostrada at 90 miles an hour and tend to zip out around and in front of you if you do slow down for the stop signs. Yes driving the 9 here can be a real challenge, very tight roads in the old towns, and my 20" rims are beat to hell from the granite curbs.

...and no one in his right mind would want to play chicken with those boys anyway, whether they were driving big OR small vehicles. Regarding the bikes, it's an international thing with these youngsters on their "crotch rockets" because they ride them similarly down here, blinding speeds, in and out of traffic and often right on the line. Saw the same thing while living in the north east. A posse of about 20 zipped by, chasing each other and one of them wiped out a few miles ahead. I think they picked him up with a rake...was not pretty!
