when you fill up your tank..........

Eventually anyone running there car while getting gas will set off a check engine light.

unless your like me a throw a CEL every time you start you car.

One of the main reasons for letting the turbo cool down before turning the car off is to keep the oil from coking (crystalizing) in the turbo. As long as you wern't doing a canonball run at 140 mph it will be fine to turn it off, like Citizenpro said you're gonna just turn it back on.

i would let the engine shut off before filling gas. easy thing to do like they say is to not spool up before you decide to fill gas, then you wont have to wait that long to cool it down.

I live in Jersey and they always complain for me to shut off the engine. I hold up the key and they give me this crazy face because the turbo timer is still counting down.

Also, I've never heard of someone getting fined for leaving their engine running at the pump.

why would you blow a CEL light for filling the car up while its running?

The vehicle will only run Evap system tests during idling conditions. To run a Evap test the vehicle pressurizes the fuel tank among other things. If you have the gas cap is off while it is running the test it realizes it cannot build the amount of pressure it wanted. Then it will throw the cel.

It happens very often, probably 3-4 cars a week.

well i probably fill my tank 1-2 times a week and i leave the car running every single time and it has never happened to me. Could my car have something different? I dunno i just never heard of it before.

No your car is the same as any other car.
Luck, pure and simple.
