When do I get my first oil change?

Hello... at what miles did you guys get your first oil change... my P5 has 4K on it should I bring it to the dealer or do they send you a letter or something

Thanks

It all basically boils down to personal preference. The owner's manual states to change the oil at 7500 mile intervals under normal driving conditions. I change my oil every 5000 miles. Most places like Jiffy Lube say to change it every 3000, but again, this is strictly personal preference. As for my first oil change, I believe I waited until I had about 4500 miles on my car. You didn't harm anything waiting this long, but I would get your oil changed pretty soon.

well i want to take advantage of the warranty hehe I do my own oil change on my cars but if it still under warranty why not let them do it while I sleep ehhe I just wanted to know what miles you have when you first brought it

Personally, I never go to the dealer for any "maintenance" - There are many other shops better qualified to do it, and at better labor rates as well, assuming you're not capable of doing it yourself.

Your warranty isn't affected one bit by "DIY oilchanges" - Nothing in the warranty specifies WHO must do any scheduled maintenance, and they cannot legally require you to bring it back to the dealership to keep the warranty valid. Just keep a log of the maintenance you do, (date and mileage) and a file with the receipts for the materials you use, and you'll be fine, should you ever need to have any warranty repairs done.

I do first oil changes early - Say 1500 to 2000 miles, and then every 3 to 4K after that, but as mazdadan correctly says, it's all personal preference - Doing what I've found works the best for my $$$ over many years.

I will tell you why not to let them do it...for starters it will be the most expensive oil change you will ever get....oil changes and other NORMAL maintenance is NOT COVERED by your warranty....you still have to pay for them...

that is unless you got some deal like I did for free oil changes for life.... :{D just to damn bad that my dealer is over an hour drive for me...and that makes it not worth taking it to them for the service.

i did my first after 3k miles....and then every 3k after that...yes i do go to the dealer to get my oil changed but i get a discount on labor and parts cuz i'm a "special" member.

what?? I have to pay? what's then what's the bumper to bumper coverage then? When I got my Jetta I didn't have to pay oil change until I got 26K on it. hmmm better check the paper works

I just called the dealer... hehe I have to pay... they said its not covered... oh well looks like I have to do it by myself.

Should I use synthentic even the car is new?

I'm just gonna say this once cuz arguments always come up with the oil change topic. According to the manual, it's 5,000 Miles. Any sooner is just more money down the drain. Good-bye.

That is now what a dealer will tell you. If you go to the dealer and run normal oil they wil tell you to change it every 3K. When I had the dealer switch my car to synthetic they said it only needs to be changed every 5K. But as everyone has stated it is personal preference. but I would say you are way behind on getting a first oil change considering engine break in.
