Wheel/Tire fitment help

'07 MS6
I just bought a '07 MS6 and plan to upgrade to wider wheels and tires. I would prefer 17" diameter over 18" diameter for tire selection and ride comfort.

Are there any known 17x8 wheels that fit a 245 tire without rubbing? Specifically I am looking to fit the Bridgestone RE-01R 245/45/17 which has a 9.6" section width (1.1" wider than stock).

I see that the Enkei GTC-01 is available in 17x8 ET48, which would be about the perfect offset to maintain stock clearance between tire and strut. I'll do some measurements and see if I have .55" between the OEM tire and suspension/fender tonight. I would prefer not to roll the fenders, and I don't plan to lower the car.

Thanks for the link. I'm going to take measurements myself as info seems to be all over the place. Many 235s are just as wide as 245s, so I'm looking at measured section widths mounted on 8" wide wheels.

I was the first guy to fit 245s on a 2002 WRX, which everyone told me couldn't be done. I'm just getting lazy now and didn't want to break out the tools :)

Please Update.

I'm interested in putting the same size tire on my car. I'm interested in the outcome.

I did some rough calculations. I think the 42 offset would provide stock clearance from the suspension arms. A 45 offset would bring it in slightly, roughly 3mm and would push things outward nearly an inch.

I think a 42 or 45 offset would work if you are willing to roll fenders and then some.

Let me know.

I still need to take measurements. My fiance has been driving the car lately since her car is in the shop (and she's not allowed to drive my STi). Once I have it back I'll measure things up.

I was going to look at the clearance from the OEM tire to the suspension and plan to use all of that space. The 245 tire I am looking to use (Bridgestone RE-01R) has a section width 1.1" wider than OEM. That means that it will need .55" (or 14mm) more space on either side than the OEM fitment. Whatever clearance we have inside and out will determine the wheel offset and the extent to which the fender will need to be rolled.

The easier way to do this is to not compromise the OEM clearance from tire to suspension. By my calcualtions with the RE-01R a wheel with a 46 offset would provide that same clearance inside, but it would also need 28mm additional space to the fender (which we don't have).

there is a speed6 at the mazda north american operations building usinh stock FD wheels with wide tires. I beleive they are 17's with 245.

Given that the RE-01R is so wide for it's nominal rating (i.e. their 195s stack higher than Falken Azenis 205s) I chickened out and went with 235s. Mounted on 17x8 Enkei GTC-01 (ET48) I have room to spare. I think 245s are possible when I order my next set of tires, but the 235 RE-01Rs are square on the 8" wide wheels. They look wider than most 245s.

BTW, this is with RPM street springs.

with 17inch rims could i fit a big break kit?? also whats the offset to fit the 235 size tire... do you think i would rub with a 235/40/18
