Wheel hop in reverse?

I've been getting bad hop going in reverse out of my parking space. It's never been a problem before, and steering seems a bit off now. I did a search and found someone with a blown LSD who had similar problems, how would a car drive with that condition? Could a blown/stuck diff. cause pull to one side? I have to go to the dealer anyways for flash/clunk... I hope they don't give me s*** about it.

Don't drop the clutch when backing out of a parking space??? haha all joking aside do you get bad wheel hop in first as well. I think more than likely it could be a busted motor mount.

I doubt it would be a broken motor mount. My experience with a broken mount has been alot of torque flex of the engine, loss of rigidity and a very rough idle. Wheel hop is normally due to a worn out suspension.

Welcome to the forum Garrett!

I have the same issue and it's not worn out suspension considering the car has incredible wheel hop out of the box. I think what he is talking about (if it's like mine) feels like tire rub but is actually either CV issues or the car is out of aligment. It's only noticeable if the s. wheel is cut hard one direction or another in reverse.

When my motor mount broke I had incredible wheel hop. Wheel hop is often caused by soft motor mounts thats why motor mount upgrades cures most of the wheel hop.

Interesting. My car idles rough and has this "wheel hop" in reverse. Its not as much a wheel hop as it is one tire(the inside) catching up with the other(outside). I've been trying to figure this out for a while.

That's just my experience with wheel hop. I ended up ripping my axle in half and blowing my differential to bits due to wheel hop putting undue strain on my drivetrain. I fished out bits of gears from my rear-end with a magnetic wand. This was at the track. I ended up having to push my car off the starting line. It still wheel hops but my diff can handle it now, I switched to a racing clutch type differential.

If protoge's have that inherent problem I can see that happening but normally wheel hop off the line can be corrected with upgrading your bushings, struts or shocks.

What's up Heathen!

Yeah I think I got the same thing goin on with my car. Seems like everytime i back out of my driveway and turn its like one wheel is trying to move more than the other and you get a weird uneven jerk almost. Its really hard to explain. I also get it really bad when im pulling out of a slanted parking structure. Is this really a problem that needs to be fixed and will this cause any further damage of any kind???

I get this wheel hop/sticking issue but it just started now that it has gotten cold. As i drive and my car gets heated up it doesnt do it even if i try. So i cant bring it to the dealer cause its over an hour away and my car will be pleanty warm by then,so the only way they can know what im talking about is if i leave it over night. But my 2 cents is that its just a clutch in the LSD sticking due to the cold, and once it heats up its fine.

That is my experience with this problem as well. Warm out or car has been run for a decent amount of time...no problems.

Update: I've fixed the major handling problems by redoing the tire pressure (all 4 were different PSI), didn't think about it since I had filled them all last week. Damn this freaking cold weather.

However, I'm still noticing a weird feeling when driving, and the idle seems rough. I'm thinking that maybe it is a broken motor mount. Is there any way to check them myself? As we all know, you have to diagnose your problems BEFORE going to the dealer.

Goddamn, thanks for posting this. I have been having the same issue now that its frickin' freezin' out, and I'm so glad I'm not the only one! It stopped doing it now that its a little warmer out (above freezing) but it scared the hell out of me the first few times it did it ...

I have this same issue when I first take off in my car for the day. It seems to be related to the tires being very cold and not sticking to the road. Once the tires have a little heat in them, everything seems to be fine.
