What's your radar detector?

Alright, I'm lookin for input on which radar detector you have and how you like it and if its has/hasnt saved you. Loacated in CA, if that matters...I'm lookin at Beltronics Vector 955 its right under $200. Lookin to stay within that price range..150-250

Beltronics RX55.

I've had it close to a year already and it has saved me at least 20 times or more. It has some downsides like false alarms and its laser detection isn't among the best but cops here use radar in the k and the ka band and this thing picks them up a long ways away. For the price (~170) it was hard to beat.

My original plan was to use this as a stepping stone to one of the top models like the Valentine 1 but it has surpassed my expectations and there really is no reason (yet) for me to get rid of it.

I dont have one but the valentine V1 is the best out there and I will be getting one when I have the extra money. You could get one off ebay for about 250 I bet.All the cannon ballers and gumball rally guys swear buy them so thats good enough for me.

dont settle for anything less then a valentine1. Though I use my natural radar dector (your eyes, and instincts on where cops will be) the V1 is the only thing you should get, expecially if you are going to rely on it.

I've got a beltronics 870. I picked it up for $40 on craigslist and it performs as good as my friends $150 Cobra.

Got the $200 Cobra. Selectable detection (turned off annoying X band). Spectre and KU alerts in addition to the normal K and KA bands. Built in compass. Pretty nice piece for the price.

I have the V1, imho the rest are just a waste of money. My V1 has saved me countless times in the 5 years I've had it. it even survived intact a 125 mph rollover. still works great to this day.

I have the Beltronics V995 and I can't live without it...its actually my second radar with them through their owner's upgrade program.
It picks up radars at amazing distances (7 miles)...though it also picks up false alarms...though which radar doesn't... (lol2) You just have to be smart about it.

Its saved me so many times over the years that I've lost count...basically, its saves me everyday... I can't drive without...
A radar is truly undispensable...

Through my years of experience, I'd go with Beltronics, Passport, or Valentine 1... They are all the very best and don't settle for the cheapest one in their model line up...as long as you get the top of the line model from either brand, you will be fine...
Just be smart about using a radar though...install it exactly as the instructions say and use commonsense...

Good luck and let us what you go with... (2thumbs)

A Cobra I spent about $100 on two years ago. It gives some false alarms, but I pay attention to it (I don't mind slowing down for no reason once in a while) so it has saved my butt a few times over the last two years.
I also use my eyes. Constantly scanning the road and noticing cars up ahead hitting their brakes for no apparent reason has saved me from instant on a few times as well.

Nothing beats a $399 Valentine One in price and performance...not even the best from Beltronics which is the $450 Bel STi or the Escort 9500i which is $450-$500 depending on if you get red or blue leds.

Whatever you do, avoid Cobra and Rocky Mountain Radar (RMR) which has changed its name to KAT radar because they claim to jam radar and laser which is a lie and the FCC is cracking down on them because of their claims.

Good luck with buying any Bel or Escort (same company) product off of ebay or another online auction site because your warranty is voided regardless of what they say.

Hmm.. they honored my warranty a couple months ago even though I purchased it from digitalfotoclub.com. I guess I got lucky though. I wouldn't risk it. I thought I was going to be stuck with a $300 paper weight.

ya you just gotta watch out who its from i dont trust those big powersellers...who knows where they get that stuff from and it could be refurbs/broken/water damaged/wtc....i look for the individual sellers who bought it legit and is just selling theirs cuz they dont need it or they got a new one...

Some people may think a cheap 100-150 dollar detector is as good as a V1 or escort...and thats actually partially true (very small partially). The only test where the cheaper ones actually matched the performance of the expensive ones was the straight site, flat road, limited distance test with Ka. The V1, escort, etc... trounced the cheap cobras in angled tests, X band, K band, Laser, POP, false detection, multiple signals, etc...So unless you plan on driving in lots of straight lines with no change in elevation, go with a V1.
