What's YOUR PC/Office setup??? Pics!

Functionality for me. Plus, they don't make a monitor that's 32"x18". I run many applications at the same time. It's especially usefull when I use my graphical design programs. It allows me to have one screen as my drawing board and the other for toolsets. I could never work on one screen ever again. I'm far more productive with two.

Got ya all beat...can u say BASIC on a "Timex Sinclair"? Also proud owner of a still functional Apple IIC! Age be damned....

Lucky! Hehe. A good friend of mine had the Apple IIC. We would always play a game on it called Karateka. Spent hours back and forth trying to defeat the fist flying masters.

Sorry...back on topic resume.

Holy Shi*T...I played that game all the time when I was about 8 or 9 years old...I haven't seen it since you posted that screen cap...Wow...talk about a random flashback....ANYWAY...Back on topic!

I never thought about running two monitors but it could make sense for me as I am a multitasking MONSTER (laugh) I was thinking about getting one of those new 24" Dell monitors...Something large enough to work on several applications at once with comfort and provide a decent cinematic experience for watching movies and viewing high rez pics. Also...I do plan on getting back into gaming so high-end specs are a must!

Do any of you use a wireless KB/Mouse setup and work at a comfortable distance from your monitor?

MORE PICS!!! ;)

Once you have two monitors you'll never go back to one.

I'm a graphic designer, so being able to have different graphic software in separate windows and keep working in both is awesome. The two monitor set up also helps for everything else as well. Say like keeping the Mazda Forums up on one side, and porn up on the other side...

If you're a big multitasker I would recommend getting 2 (or 3) 19"+ flats instead of one giant ass monitor.

I mean you could pick up a couple of nice LGs (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16824005066) for around $250 and put them on a nice graphics card for less than you'd spend on a decent 24"

Exactly. Two monitors with a killer graphics card. The card is just as important as you most likely know for gaming. I'm running a NVIDIA GeForce 6800 w/512 MB. Not the most powerfull, but it suits me just fine.

Decent machine too.

Dell Dimension 9100
- Pentium D Processor 820 with Dual Core Technology (2.80GHz, 800FSB)
- 2GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz- 2DIMMs
- 320GB Performance RAID 0 (2 x 160GB SATA HDDs)
- 16x DVD+/-RW Drive + 16x DVD-ROM Drive

I have an eGeforce 6800 Ultra... pretty much the same card.

Excellent points guys...I'm starting to really consider running multiple monitors...I usually have around 10 "Mazda Forums" tabs on my browser at any one time not including an assortment of other sites.

Have 2 or even 3 monitors would allow me to dedicate one for each major task group:

Monitor 1: Mazda Forums

Monitor 2: IM programs, music, Non-Mazda Forums internet browsing and Design apps

Monitor 3: For viewing Movies, TV shows (TOP GEAR!!!), vids and pics (which I do on almost a daily basis as I don't really watch Japanese TV) and of course gaming ;)

Now that I'm really thinking about it...This would really streamline my multitasking ways! However I do have some questions:

What operating system are you guys using? How do you alternate controls and programs between multiple monitors? Can you use multiple monitors for gaming or do you need special hardware/software?

I'm also in the market for a desktop...I'm tired of using my Toshiba lappy as my main system...The problem is it's difficult to find vendors who will ship ENGLISH SYSTEMS AND PARTS to Japan!

I'd like to get a powerful machine with a mean graphic card (maybe SLI!?!?) setup without breaking the bank.

* Those LGs are nice Rick!

I run Windows XP pro and my graphics card handles all the monitor stuff. It can be set up very simply, or I could go into super major detail about how the screens are handled.

I built my system about a year ago for a good bit less than $2000. I don't game on my computer, but I could If I wanted to. I built mine as a dedicated graphics station.

I have 24" and a 20" dell monitors set up as duals, there is definately no going back from a nice setup!

Here's my little "work station" at HPF.... Kind of a mess, but I keep it real (that excuse works for everything) I haven't setup my 'home office' since I moved. My home setup is a lot more interesting w/ a better computer (extra monitor) and such.

And the same one as last year... ha.

I wish that had significant dates listed though.

I did hook up my HDMI output to my 50" Sony LCD. That was quite interesting to game on.

Dual monitor is the shizzle. My work pc and home pc are hooked up to the same periferals so I can just hit a key combo and switch between them on one monitor and have something running on the other, one big screen wouldn't let me do this. plus for now you can snap firefox to one screen and windows explorer or whatever on the other. kinda divides the workspace up nicely.

My Ideal Setup

The ideal setup for work, gaming, tvwatching would be to set up your desk in the middle of the room. one sid is your chair the other is a couch for buddies who come to watch you work. Then have your tv in the corner or straight out from your desk so all it takes is a quick glance from the monitor to check out the slam dunk or touchdown going on the TV.

Then you can also spend all your money on one kick ass TV and easily hook up your pc to it so you don't have to spend a whole lot of money on a kick ass monitor and a kick ass tv. Plus 17 to 19" monitors are a dime a dozen now a days so you can keep adding screens and vdo cards if you are nutty.

if you got something that really needs a big display slide it on over to the video unit and you can execute from the comfort of your desk chair (get a wireless keyboard and you can hop over to the couch and run s*** from there if you like)

Oh and I am a huge fan of the desks with a L return on them.

One day this will be how I set s*** up.

(woowoo) I can't get enough of these pics :D

Cool setups guys...Nice to see a variety of layouts and specs!

Brad...That 24" deal is a beaut!..Man I can imagine one 24" center flanked on both sides by 19 or 20"ers (although that is a bit OVER budget)...Maybe a center 21" wide screen flanked by 19's on both sides...Hmmm the possibilities :D

The thing about living in Japan...Unless you have a house or a roomy apartment...You don't much space AT ALL...At this point a nice plasma screen is NOT in the budget (one day!)...So a nice monitor setup will have to pull double duty as a workstation and mini home theater!

Keep them pics and specs coming! (thumb)
