What's up w/ pricing of the RX-8?

I guess the point I was trying to make is that there seems like alot of people talking like the Rx-8 is the greatest thing in the world and that the 350Z and S2000 are junk compared to it. And yet the 350Z and S2000 are still selling better. And the reason why I want folks to buy more RX-8's is because maybe it will make make Nissan and Honda dealers sell the 350Z and S2000 under MSRP.

OIC now...Ok.

The RX-8 is a great car. It's the first new rotary back in the states in past several years.

I emailed this thread to my brother, and he did some research:

called the mazda dealer in van nuys i test drove with friday night, he
says no rebates are on, and he was totally surprised at the idea of
that sale. i called browning mazda, and i confirmed it was a weekend
sale on a specific car - when i was in the business they called it an
"ad" car - and you were never supposed to actually sell that car, it
was meant to bring in customers interested in it, increasing overall
business.

so i am sure this does not represent actual current pricing on the car,
i suspect the "TMV" on the edmunds.com site may be pretty accurate as
to what prices the rx8 has actually been selling at by region.

canada gets 700 units (not built to order) from japan
the US gets 22 000 units ...
(from my understanding)
i live in canada and want one, but can't get one and everytime i ask, i smell more BS than when a politician opens their mouth.

the s2000 starts at $49000 (assuming you don't haggle/get a deal) .
the track pack 350Z is $48000 (assuming the same thing).

so it's an affordable grand touring sports car for some @ $40000(for the highest model)... an exclusive alternative. it's not hot s***, but it's not s*** either.

after looking at it all, the trac version is not worth it. Stick with the enthusiast. Road and Track said the Bose system sounded like it was underwater in the Nov issue. The Tire Pressure Monitor system appears to only work with THEIR 18" wheels, the VDC is better turned off according to a few folks, and you can get your own 18" wheels and custom Brembos for less money than the Track version.

That's exactly why I'm going with the enthusaist model. I was going to get the Stoptech big brake kit and some 19" Volk TE37's anyway. I would have gotten the base model, but might as well pay $2K more for Xenon's, an LSD and cruise control.

gotta have the lsd and cruise. I use cruise control all the time. Best ticket avoidance device around!

for having 254 hp it only puts about 180 of it too the wheels, and that is not good for sales. That's what people are talking about when they say it's underpowerd

Where are you getting 180 to the wheels from??

A 30% drive train loss is hard to believe for a rear-wheel drive car...

Its only rates to 238 hp actualy and yes peope only get about 180 whp on dynos.

Twenty four percent is a hell of alot better.

And that is pretty good for an N/A rotary...

The cars is a little heavy.

someone on rx8club is putting a 20b (3 rotor) engine into one.

He said he was going to get a crossfire instead.

Is your friend numb to the senses? Better put him in check.

The Crossfire is the biggest piece of ish in this category of cars. Did you read the CR article on it?

"The Crossfire is based off the outgoing Mercedes SL technology."

--Nice to know you're buying old technology.:wtf:

Compared to the rest of the pack the RX-8 and Crossfire were the slowest of the bunch with the: Evolution, STi, and 350z.

I'd say the 350z and Evo would be the 2 best bets.

Why would you test and Evo and STi against an RX-8...They aren't even in the same class...

I had my Protege 5 at the dealer this past Saturday for some service work, and the guy who sold me the Protege 5 let me spend a good 45 minutes driving an RX-8 with the Grand Touring pacakge. The more time I spent driving it, the more I like it. I just like the Z a lot better :)

Z is nowhere near as comfortable. The seat was too narrow for me, and I am an average 180 5'10". so much power in the Z though...
