What's the difference between a 2005 Mazda 3 and a 2004 Mazda 3?

So I'm just about to buy my first car and out of all the research I did I came to a conclusion I wanted a 2005 Mazda 3. But then I seen that there's a 2004 Mazda 3 and they looked EXACTLY the same to me! (nervous) I asked around and all people told me is " Oh, there's no difference, they're just about the same." I AM NOT LOOKING FOR THAT ANSWER.
If someone could please give me a Full description on how the two are different (performance, engine, interior, exterior, fuel economy, crash test, etc.....even little things) I would VERY much appreciate it.

Nice name hahha 2004-2006 first gen. 2007-2009 second gen. 2010-2013 gen 3.

In america there is only about 2 dif engines. gen 1 had a 2.0 and a 2.3 with a 4 speed transmission i beleive on all models.
Gen 2, 2.0 and 2.3 still, now with 4 speed and 5 speed, with exception of the Mazdaspeed3 which had a 2.3 DISI tubro and 6 speed trans.

Gen 1 and gEN 2 bodys are different in the front. Interior and rear exterior is almost identical.

MPG? varies. these cars usually get 20-30 depending if you get lucky. and driving habits.

Crash test... no clue.. they are safe.
