Whats the best way to take off pin stripes???

Im doing an all black theme and i have grey/silver pinstripes and wanna take them off.. how should i go about doing this???

A hairdryer, and at least one good fingernail is all it ever took when I did it. If you are patient and peel slowly enough, all the adhesive will come off with the stripe. Get it started at one end, and then just move slowly along the car with the hairdryer, peeling slowly as you go, and it should all come off. One quick wipe afterward with some detail spray, and it'll look like the stripe never happened.

detail spray??.. like what kind? i read WD-40.. and i reallly dont wanna put that on my paint.

For the record, WD40 won't hurt paint..it just makes an unholy mess.

I used a razor blade when I took mine off. As long as it's at a shallow angle it won't scratch the paint. Knowing about the hair dryer probably would have saved me a ton of time though.

Yeah..taking them off cold is a LOT harder in most cases.

Just be patient when using your fingernail. It CAN scratch the paint.

Meh ive been trying to do this. I spent a good hour taking off the front portion of the stripes on the hood. Then I used a LITTLE bit of goo gone to get rid of the adhesive which left rainbow colored damage. Im not sure if its permanant or what but im pretty annoyed.

I tried to remove the stripes with my car out in the florida sun. It didn't work. And the car was so hot I couldn't touch it with my hand. They kept coming off in little pieces and there was no way in hell it would come off in one piece. So I used a plastic straight edge. Frustratingly slow process. Stupid pin stripes.

I don't recommend a razor blade at all, since one deviation and too much angle and you'll royally **** your paint up. Your nail, a plastic putty knife, or something soft like so will work well to get the stripe off. Using some Goo-Gone or lighter fluid will also help.

Once you're done, take a clay bar to the area to remove the last bits of residue and you'll never notice it. Coming off in small pieces is normal. It might take some time, but don't risk hacking your paint up if you're in a hurry.

I had all the time in the world, so I had no problem with just the razor. Not saying it's the best way, though. Goo Gone didn't work for me, but mineral spirits did, then I htink I wiped that down with water after, but can't remember. Probably because mine's over 10 years old the adhesive just didn't want to come off.

I just did this last weekend. To take it off, use a heat gun and start near the end (don't start at the end as their may be additional sticky stuff over the ends). Get it nice and warm and use your fingernail scraping so most of the stripe will end up under your nail, not over. If you get it just to the right temp you will be able to just peel it right off. I would then take some quick detailer solution and rub it on to clean up whatever might be left.

of course you want to start with a nice clean car.... and hope you're glue isn't all that nasty

Heat gun/Hair dryer easiest way but be carefull..

on previous cars i ve used an old cd and goo-be-gone to scrape the left over residue off. i had heard the cd wouldnt scratch the paint, and it didnt in my case, worked very well.
just my 2 cents.
