MazdaSpeed Protege
Hi guys, Im looking to upgrade my bad stock speakers that are are starting to s*** the bed.. But i want to know what are the best speakers i can get?? Something that sounds amazing without having to add in a big ole Sub woofer!

Thanks!

Stock speakers are actually pretty decent ken woods. And with the best your Gona be spending a 1500+ on a set. If you want a good sounding system you will want a sub. I have factory ken woods and 2 12" Polk audios with a 600 watt amp and it sounds amazing

Those stock kenwoods SUUUUUUUUUUCK! Mine are absolutly junk only the rear deck speakers work at this point and they dont have any bass at all and if you turn it up past a certain point than all you can here is like a static mess... But the kickers that im getting seem to have awesome reviews! I dont want any subs I dont wanna be the boom boom boom kid that i hear coming from 10 miles away I just want the good quality sound from some aftermarket door and rear deck speakers which these will add alot more bass than i have now but thats not what im after at all. Just after something that will sound really good that i can upgrade the stock kenwoods to.

if you have an actual "Mazdaspeed Protege", there are no rear deck speakers. the rear deck has the subwoofer mounted under it, and the rear speakers are in the rear doors. if you open the trunk, and you have no subwoofer under the deck, well, then you have a bastardized system already.

front doors should have lower speakers and upper tweeters.

Lol I do in fact have a mazdaspeed protege and i can assure you that there are rear deck speakers and they are 6X9 kenwood pieces of s*** and yes im aware of the bad front door speakers and tweeters.. But im not sure about rear door speakers??? Im pretty sure the MSP only came with rear deck speakers not rear door... Sooooo I think your the one with a weird protege.

Because they're not meant to produce bass, they're meant to produce a higher sound because the stock system had a sub to produce all the bass.

And unless you have it turned way up you're not Gona be the boom boom kid. I usually keep my subs way turned way down

A 10" sub and 300 watt amp will give you the sound quality you're looking for, and you can pull all the bass from the other speakers which will let you turn it up louder without the crackling

Yeah my car was all butcherd when i bought it with 40k miles on it now it has 90k and ive been fixing it ever since... so the previous owner prob took that out to install his own junk and never reinstalled it.. But i do in fact have rear deck speakers... But not sure about the rear doors...

Soo i guess my whole speaker system was in fact butcherd with the rest of the car and ill have to figure out how to make this better... Ive been doing stuff like this since i bought the car.. the last owner was a complete meat head...

i would start by taking the door panels off, and actually seeing what all is in there. also, check the trunk for remnants of a wiring harness. you might only have to add a sub and amp back there. (if that's what you want)

Check the rear doors to see if there are still speakers in them.

Btw the stock sub set up is 1,000% better than what is mp3 guys got. I know the stock ones in my rear deck ( for the mp3) are rated for 350 watts, I would assume the msp has as good or better

fyi: if the previous owner installed the 6x9's on the rear deck and just used the stock speaker wire that hangs there, that wire ties into the rear door speakers, which will in turn draw from the rear speaker output of the radio, and ultimately sound like s***.....because there's 4 speakers on what's only supposed to be used for two. mazda used the same wiring on all of the proteges (mazdaspeed, base, mp3, p5) unless you're going for a massive sound competition car, the doors and tweeters, along with a sub of your choice is enough.

i've always been a fan of JBL, but i have all kenwood in my p5 and its crystal clear. i dont recommend mixing brands, they never sound great.

Well if I want to buy an amp and subs would the amp support speakers in the front doors rear doors the rear deck and the subs?

my rear doors are 6.5. if you want to power ALL of your speakers then you will definitely need an amp to make it sound decent. then the 6x9's would be worth keeping. you can A) get an amp that will power the mids/highs only, and then have another amp for the subs or B) get a single amp to power ALL of them. keep in mind that "B"'s amp will be a lot more money, but less of a headache.

I'd honestly just get good mid/high door speakers with a top end head unit that COMES with enough power to make the speakers sound great, get an amp and sub set-up, good wiring and call it a day. thats all you need unless going for competition.

look on Crutchfield for packages, they usually run specials monthly. i got my 2 12 JBL's in a box, shipped to my house for $200. i tend to stay away from the local stereo shops, they tend to push speakers they get a higher percentage of income off of, not necessarily the best for your set-up.
