What's the alpha designation for our US spec 2s?

So like how there is an FD R-X7 and NA Miata, what would the letter code be for our 2011-2013 US spec Mazda 2s?

I think it is DE. Not sure though. That's what the Fiesta/2 platform is called anyway..

Check your VIN, it'll be on there, for example on my FC the VIN starts as JM1FC. J stands for Japan, M1 is Mazda, FC is the platform. Taking a look at my VIN on my ownership, JM1DE1H, the chassis code would be DE. If the coding is similar to what it used to be, the 7th last digit (0) signifies it was made at the Hiroshima plant.

Thanks genericmoniker -- that's what I thought but wasn't 100% sure. What would L designate since that's my 7th digit?

Yep, DE is the current, 3rd-gen Mazda Demio/2 platform; the previous generation was DY.

Our cars are made in the Ujina plant in metropolitan Hiroshima, basically the plant that's right next to Mazda's main office. The other big manufacturing facility Mazda has in Japan is in Hofu, where the 3 and 6 are made.

Here's a Google map of the Ujina plant and its huuuuuuuuuuge parking lot full of Mazdas waiting to get on the boat for export:
