2014 Genesis Coupe R-Spec
i searched around but got nowhere, some say 205 is the biggest, some swear they r runnin 215, and then there is the one runnin 225/50/16

i want a wide low profile tire for the stock 16*6.5 ES rim, any suggestions?

damn, 225? I dunno abt that. 215 r comp will fit, but I wouldn't go bigger than 205 for a skreet tire

(skreet skreet skreet?)

hmmm...I think when I was lookin @ r comps, I looked at 215 40, cuz of the better gearing they give you, but 215 45 should do you right

If you're running the stock ES wheel, the rim width is 6". According to the Tire and Rim Association, the largest tire you can safely fit on your rim is 225/50. No 45 or lower profile tire should be mounted on a 6" wide rim as it's unsafe and can lead to tire or wheel failure. Recommended rim widths for a given tire size are based both on section width and aspect ratio. For a chart of recommended tire/wheel widths, go to:

Hmm.....so ive found some AO32R's in 225/50/16. And those would fit over the stock P5 wheels ? and not rub ?

realize that a Hoosier 205 is about as wide as most 235 tires... so I don't know if I'd go all the way up to a 225.

They are Yokohama's ... and from doing some research I think 225 on a 6" wide rim will be too much. Ill go with some Millenia wheels with 205/50/15 for solo2 instead.

if you're just autoXing on them, a 225 on a 6" wheel is fine. it'll stick out and look funny, but plenty of people have run 225s even on 5" wheels with success. if i was running my toyota in HS, i'd be running 225/45/14s on my stock 5.5" wheels. the tradeoff is in transitional response, and in the case of a REALLY tall 225/50/16 on a P5, acceleration.

i don't think a blanket statement like "no 45 series or lower tire should be mounted on a 6" rim" is entirely accurate. that is going to depend on the width of the tire relative to the rim; and for the record, a 205/45/16 fits perfectly well. staying within the manuf's recommended range is never a bad idea (and for street use, it's a very good idea); however, keep in mind that ass-covering (and product performance) is a major concern of tire companies. the car isn't going to burst into flames on course b/c a wheel is 1/2" outside the recommended range, but the tire might not be performing optimally if the wheel isn't the proper width.

as a practical matter, i probably wouldn't run anything wider than a 215 on the stock 6" wheels...the tradeoff in response probably would not be worth it. i believe hoosier or kumho makes a 215/40/16. on the street, i wouldn't bother going wider than a 205.

yeah .. I was asking because I could've got a deal on those tires. But ill pass. Ill stick to 205/50/15's

Thanks for the reply.

Hmmmm ok ..here is another twist. I just found some 16X7 wheels with a 40 mm offset. So those rims plus those 225/50/16 tires. Seems like a decent solo2 setup !

so a 215/40/16 will fit? Thanks!

if your tire guy is really patient, they *should* fit. they'll just be a b*tch to get on. i haven't done it, but ask amaff; i think he has.
