Whats body paint safe and removes tape goo?

when my car got broken into 2 months ago i had to put tape on the body to hold a plastic sheet over the window they broke to steal my 3 year old kenwood head unit, the tape seemed to not stick to badly, and hold the sheet.

Aparently not, after getting the car back and having the new head unit installed and the window replaced there is a decent amount of residue on the area where the tape was.

I was gonna use something called goof off, but my brain said no, since it smelled like paint thinner, and I dont want to mess up the paint job, other jerks have done that for me via my right rear bumper and a dent near my front end.

I just need a solvent that will be body paint safe and remove the tape goo. Confirmed solutions only please, I know you all have great ideas, but I'm fresh out.

3M General Purpose Adhesive Remover.. most of us used it to remove the adhesive left over from the door side moldings. I suggest getting the spray can version because it makes the job easier.

wth? got images? and such?

wd40 and a soft rag has always worked for me, if its real hard to get off run a blow dryer on it for a few minutes to get it gooey

oh i don't have any pics of em. they're just those things that prevent door dings. if you take em off it leaves a cleaner look

I had the same issue this spring and got some spray stuff from a local shop that did the trick and takes off tar. Can't remember the name of it right now, but I can find it when I get home and let you know if you want. It didn't damage the paint at all.

goo gone...took off the adhesive left over from the vinyl racing stripes on my boyfriend's truck with hardly any effort and the paint is perfect
