What the hell is this block?

I lifted my car up to try to track down some random noises I've been hearing. That failed, but I did discover this block. I've seen it before, but I never gave it thought until now. I figure it must be a Mazdaspeed-specific performance part. Any thoughts?

Edit: The block itself is made of metal. It's encased in rubber, and attached to a bracket somehow.

This block has the letter B stamped on it. Hence, the b-block.

Here it is installed. There's a stud coming out of the subframe where it attaches. There's about an inch between the subframe and the transmission above it.

Anyone know why this block is?

Might be a tie down anchor, used for securing the car during shipment from Japan...
