Is it just me or is a crap load of people selling there MP3.
I am no different but all of this jumping ship is a little unsettling.
I am seriously considering removing my car from the market becuase of it.

Just thought I'd oice my concern. I was only selling mine becuase I dump way to much money into it. Not for repairs but for performance.

very true..I also have noticed this trend..I saw you keep yours 1st, becuase I bet you will miss it soooooo much once its gone..

Probably, The only problem is I am having problems justify spending the same per month on the MP3 as I can on a New TL type S.

However, this car has my blood in it and I don't want to feel like I am giving up on it.

Ya I was going to sell mine, but I do love this Car, And I still dont have to share my kind of car with others like HONDA, or Acura that everybody has.

I figure if I'm paying 320 a month to have my car be in the shop every 3000 miles and have it depreciate faster than a Pontiac Aztec, I might as well just lease an A4 and be happy throwing 300 a month at a car...

Well, if, and only IF Mazda does the right thing tomorrow, at least I still be driving another Mazda.

Just don't know what as of yet.

Why is it always in the shop, the clunk?

i dont want to sell mine, i love her. but im hoping the insurance company totals mine. she will never be the same. if they dont total her (90%sure they WONT) im going to trader her in, cuase she will never be the same again.

Good luck Newf, I do like the wrx, but I cant get into one of those for under 425 a month,

OUR cars have lost value, BUT I THINK ITS BECAUSE PEOPLE THAT OWNED THEM JUST TRADED THEM IN FOR WHATEVER THEY COULD GET. Think about it, if every mp3 owner said I wont sell my car for less than 16 thousand thats what they would be worth. What hurts are the people selling them for 10 thousand then Kelly blue book gets that info and says HELL those are only worth 10 thousand.
SEE MY POINT.

IMO

I almost hit the floor when i first found out what Kelly was giving them.

To thinkk the car lost almost 1/2 its value in a year!
BS!
Mine is out for Private sale only, no dealer BS. You can trade on in for 10K then they turn around and mark it to 15K and take 14K for it.
Mine is sitting at 15K and I am in no hurry to sell it so if someone wants it for that cool, if not I still have a bad ass ride.

MrMP3 has a good point.

I've heard of a few MP3's being sold here in Canada for 22k and above with 50,000 kms.

I think it's really just a matter of where you live, and timing.

No, you are completely wrong. That has nothing to do with the value of this car.

I'll sum it up for all of you. The MP3 is just a glorified Mazda Protege. Would you buy a Ford Escort that has a suspension system on it for $4000 more than what it's worth? NO. This car has lost all it's value because it is a cheaply made economy car. So are Honda Civics, so are Mistu. Lancers, so are Nissan Sentras. All these cars are just cookie cutter design of eachother. They all have similar horsepower, They all have similar interior. They were all built as "cost effectively" as each other. Therefore, they will all lose thousands in value in the first year. That's why I'm jumping ship. I'm tired of buying cars that are worthless after one or two years. That's why I'm buying luxury from now on. I will NEVER buy another econobox import again for the rest of my life. No offence, but this is exactly why these cars are worthless now.

Yes, in the shop means the clunk...well most of the time at least, it could also be the transmission (needing almost complete replacement), the alignment (always being off, even after alignments), the stereo (graphics have gone buh-bye[on the fritz, not on a different setting]), door handles falling out, speaker screws falling out inside the door, I could go on, but it hurts...
Ben hit the nail on the head. KBB doesn't give 2 $hits if its an MP3 or a protege, or a sentra for that matter...its a compact japanese car, that is not a Honda or Toyota, so it loses value, FAST. Add in the problems I've had and its not worth my time or money. I'd rather pay 15k for a used A4 and deal with some random maintenance costs...or lease a new one and not have maintenance costs...(all for the same cost, if not less)

I HAVE TO DISAGREE WITH YOU ON THIS, WHY IS IT THEN THAT A 2000 CIVIC SI WITH MORE MILES ON IT THEN MY MP3 IS WORTH 2 THOUSAND MORE? BECAUSE THE DEMAND IS GREATER THATS WHY.
IMO

and scott it just sounds like you have a lemon car for sure. Sorry to hear all your problems. But like I said lots of prices determine demand for vehicle. not japanese so its now WORTHLESS..
Japanese cars hold there value more than DOMESTICS now

A Civic SI with more miles on it, is still a Honda...I referred to that in my earlier post. {its a compact japanese car, that is not a Honda or Toyota, so it loses value, FAST} Hondas and Toyotas hold value, that is well known.
"Japanese cars hold there value more than DOMESTICS now"
That is 100% correct BUT, I didn't compare Japanese cars to domestics...domestics definetly have values that go down worse than Japanese cars; without doubt...try comparing both to anything German though...

German will win I know that, But the cost of german is much higher to. So its kind of a toss up. I am just stating I dont think our cars crashed because they are econobox cars like ben stated thats all.

The cost per month is the same, if not cheaper if you buy used, or lease (a german, honda, or toyota car of greater value). Bottom line is, the famous, "you pay for what you get"...I just feel that I payed way too much for what I got (though when the car is fully functional, and I can somehow forget about the issues, I feel a bit better). Just wish that was more often...
Also, as a side note...my car is always for sale...but at this point I won't accept anything less than 16k, because I still owe too much on it for me to justify taking that much of a hit. Granted, I'll never be able to sell it for that, so at this point, until more is payed off, I'm stuck with it.

Well The idea of supply and demand does take effect here but there is another factor at work that no one has mentioned. On average Honda and Toyota has far superior reliability to Mazda. Thats why they hold the value better. Poeple know they will last longer with less needed repairs so as a whole people want more of them.

I hate to see people jumping ship on the protege. Then again I am doinf it myself.

Heres a question for everyone.
If your car had no issues such as the tranny, idle problems or suspension noises and failings, would you keep the car or still get something else?

Well Luckily I only have had bushing clunk problems, but yes I love my car and Yes I would keep it. I DO wish mazda was more helpful with our issues though, I just like the fact that there are only 1500 of our cars out there. Ya its slow and it might not be worth a lot, BUT How often do you drive passed an mp3?

:)
