What sub/s with JL 500/1?

the 15a is the one people have been having a few problems with recently. I honestly think a 12a would be perfect...consider it a middle ground between the 12w6v2 and the 12w7...those are it's main competition sonically (from JL anywho). Of course...bottom line is that it's up to you! ;)

my buddy's 15A should be in today or tomorrow:D he's building a box with his dad this weekend. i'll post some pics of it when it comes in. he'll be running it off a 600 watt amp will he gets a larger 1000 watt one;)

yea I wondered if there were some problems with it, even by their own descriptions:

"The e15A is a driver we've struggled to perfect while keeping our standards nailed to the ground. After months and months of production, prototyping, and going back to the drawing board our goals have been met."

" The e15A has taken flat the flat cone and the idea of just 'how strong' it can be to new heights. We've since adapted the flat cone into every subwoofer we build due to the having less problem rates, higher performance, and giving it a look that can't be missed. The e15A adapts a new aluminum based structural enhancement system that allows the cone to face abuse with a smile."
(in other words, they had to add aluminum to reinforce the cone because it was so large and flat! )

but that's good to know, thanks :)

they were designed to work together, so should be pretty nice ;)

although it sure is a pricey combo

definitely a pricey combo, but it'll rock:D but i'll keep my brahma 10 and save the money;) and i'm finally getting it back next tuesday, after being rebuilt. they should have never covered it under warranty, but i figured i'd fight to see if i could get them to, and low and behold they did:D 2300 watts, high stress on the suspension from the 6th order bandpass box, over extended it many times, yeah, it should have never been covered;) but i'll deal with taking a while to get it rebuilt since i paid half what you are going to have to pay, and i've got over 4 times the power on tap:D

say what? my subwoofer can't handle 2300 watts? (ripped)

;)

power handling is all applications specific;) my sub is rated 1600 rms to 4800 peak:D course the 15" version of my sub took 30,000 watts before you can hear distortion:eek: this'll give you an idea of how box size effects power handling. in a ported box, subs are able to handle power similar to sealed above the tuned freq. below it the power handling is horrible, and the speaker will be come unloaded if you try to push it too much. but yes, the 15A would handle 2300 watts as long as it's clean power and the power is not abused depending on the box. i've heard of guys running 6k watts to the 15A:eek:

just placed my order for one e12A (yippy)

merry christmas to me ;)

That thing's gonna blow your mind. It'll hit cleaner and harder than your w3's (or at least it should! :)) keep us informed, as always!

yep, I will

no idea when I'll be able to build the box, but one thing at a time I guess

sweet:D my buddy got his 15A yesterday:p he got it all hooked up last night, at like 10:30 after i had just fallen asleep:mad: needless to say i heard it loud and clear in my hotel room:rolleyes: it's a bad b****. i'll be metering it today or tomorrow. it's only running off 600 watts, but it sounded like it was plenty to move it:D

Looks cool, did he build the tuned enclosure from Elemental's site? And is birch plywood as strong as MDF?

stronger, i believe. it's prefered for high end enclosures, mainly for home use. MDF is pretty much the standard for mobile audio, though. some use HDF (high density fiberboard). my buddy wanted to do all the work, so he took the recomendations from ED's site, changed them around a little to fit his trunk better, then had me check things out to make sure it was right. it's got the same internal volume and the port is tuned the same, although the dimensions are different.

I'll probably just end up building their box, unless you have any other suggestions

by the way, my sub shipped out this afternoon, and I'll have it on friday :D
