What should I do with my wheels?

I love the look of the stock 2010 MS3 wheels. But I want to blackout the car as much as possible. That being said it's leaving me with a few options.

1.) Powdercoat the wheels
2.) Paint the wheels
3.) Buy aftermarket
4.) Leave them alone and be patient

Options 1+2 is really where I'm looking to go, however my problem is I don't have a set of replacement rims to roll on while they are being sprayed or baked. Short of having my car up on blocks somewhere for days, anyone have any suggestions?

If I decide to go aftermarket, would you go for an 18? Or drop down to a 17 and hopefully save some more weight?

Opinions, flames, etc welcome!

Since I'm replying to all your other threads I'll follow suit here!

Powdercoat them semi/flat graphite or semi/flat black. I love the snowflake look of our wheels and I personally think they would look awesome darker on a black car. As you said, the only downfall is you'd either be out more money for some cheap rims to use while getting that done, or you'll be out of a car for roughly 2 days. Ahh, the price we pay to pleasure our eyes..

You COULD paint them and just tape the tires off, but you have to be either really good, or not care if it turns out sharty. I'd spend the money.

i painted the rims on my last car, i feel they turned out pretty nicely. just gotta take your time and be patient with it. pic was taken with a cell but you get the gist of it.

Agreed, I love the pattern. They looks really nice IMO. Doing a graphite or black would be pretty sick. I can always leave my car at work on a lift while I take the to get powdercoated/etc. We have a tire machine/balancer so I'm not too worried about that part.

Almost wish I could find an extra set of 2010 MS3 wheel's on the cheap so I have more options. By the time I buy them and powdercoat I could have bought a set of aftermarket.. But again, I haven't found any aftermarket in black that I love.

Though I'm not opposed to finding a lighter wheel, the stockers are pretty chunky.

Very nice! Did you paint them with the tires on or off? What was your process?

if u paint them with the tires on, use petroleum jelly on the tires then u dont have to worry about overspray and then just power wash the jelly off...

tires were kept on, taped news paper around the tire to stop over spray, then i sanded each with i think 500 or so grit, hit each with 4 coats (2 cans) of black primer, then 4 coats of gloss black spray paint(think i used 2.5 cans for this), then 3 coats of clear(2 cans for this one). in total i believe it was only like $28 that i spent and only about 8 hours of down time while painting them and letting them dry kinda. i also waited a month then wet sanded with i think 2500 grit or 3000 and waxed them up. just do even coats and you wont have any drip marks or anything like that. i believe they looked really damn good. had a bunch of people on the fuckus forums asking where i got black svt wheels from after that.

you have to wait ages after you paint to power wash off the overspray. i never take chances with things after i paint lol

if you get them powdercoated and have to have a car...you can always rent one. a smaller car just to get you buy will cost you maybe $30 plus whatever gas you use. still a pain, but not a horribly expensive alternative to just not going anywhere for a few days.

thats a pretty good idea..

i never think of that cuz u have to be 25 to rent a car in colorado...

That's a great idea. I'm 33 so it's not a problem. I think you just solved my issue and saved me some money in the long run. 30/day is a lot cheaper than 500-1000k for another set of wheels temporarily.
