What made you choose the 5?

Tushawn,

My rack just came in today and I plan to install it tomorrow. It's the Mazda rack (probably made by Yakima or someone) that you can see in the brochure and online. Until now I've been putting the bike in the car, but that's with just me in it. I'll post some pics of the rack and closeups of the tower attachments when I can. I already have 2 Rocky Mounts Lariot trays to attach also.
Rich,
I would love to see it. I work at a bike shop and have been impatiently awaiting Yakima's rack. Does the factory rack attach to the two covers?

O.k., the moonroof can be opened fully with the rack and bike trays on the car. However, the moonroof does just barely touch the trays for about the last inch of it's travel, but doesn't exert hardly any pressure on the tray. It more just slides along the bottom of it. When the moonroof is fully open, I can lightly push down on the end of it and create a visible gap between it and the trays. I don't think this light contact with the trays would ever cause a problem. One simple way to solve it would be to place a 1/16" washer or two under the rear of the trays where the attachment bolt goes down to the rear clamp. This would raise the trays enough to eliminate any contact at I all I think.

I'm not sure what two covers you're referring to. The factory rack attaches to the four mounting positions on the car. You simply pop off the 4 little covers to expose the threaded thing that's beneath them. Then, the factory Thule rack screws down into them. Then simply install the locking plastic tower covers to give it a nice appearance. All this can be done by hand and didn't take hardly any time.

I will do my best to post some pics tomorrow (Saturday).

Maybe I'll start a new thread called "roof rack" and will try to continue this there for the benefit of others who may be interested.

While all 3 seats fit well in my other baby, It was decided that I needed something bigger for ease of use. Being the snot that I am, I refuse to drive an actual minivan.
We found this, and voila- tis mine.
