These cars need high octane fuel. Running 87 causes the fuel/air to preignition. With 87, the ECU significantly retards the timing (killing power and milage) to prevent you from blowing up your engine. You can run 87 in a pinch, but it is definitely not recommended.
I run whatever full synthetic my quick-lube place puts in. I'm usually too lazy to crawl under and do it myself. For me, synthetic makes a noticable difference in how smooth the engine revs. I run Mobile 1 in my sportbike and think it is liquid gold.
