I hit the cruise control at 64mph on I-95, 54mph when inside of Baltimore beltway. I try to get behind trucks, but they are usually going faster. I make sure to try not to hit the brakes, and do slow accelerations so the auto shifts sooner. I also try to glide from on and off ramps if possible.
I am hoping to get the front drilled/slotted rotors on to help the unsprung weight up front. I also am interested in a grill block and front wheel splitters.
Oh a fun piece of information, I did use the AC during that 33 mpg run! Got to love that UR UDP!
The taping of the grill and fogs failed because they were not strong enough and it rained! I will try again later and use duct tape later.
Speed helps the most as it gets my rpms down. At 64 mph with cruise I am able to get 2800 rpm. At 54mph I am at 2400-2500 rpm. The rpm helps, but I really think a big part is wind drag increases greatly with speed. If the gas prices get too bad, I can always drop to 54 mph for the whole trip.
I would mention this is 95% hwy. I use my wife's Escort if I have around town driving, which is very little recently. Her car is next to be fixed up!
I was pretty pumped when I went 164.2 miles slightly under 3/4 a tank. It was 4.957 gallons! That means if I ran her dry it would be 480.315 miles or 497 miles with the gas light coming on!
