what is this and do we need it?

i was removing my stock sub enclosure n had to snip this out. it has wires that spider out to the trunk lid and up to the rear deck. its bolted and grounded the left sub enclosure bracket. i unplugged it from its harness and left it out the the car doesnt seem any different. everything still works. what the hell does it do?
