So I was getting a patch&plug done on one of my tires yesterday at NTB, and decided to walk over to the advanced auto while I waited. Saw an NB miata with some nice wheels and I think a roll bar setup, went inside to talk to the owner (ended up being an employee)
Well, he had his ideas about it (jackson charger, flywheel, etc) which I had no problem listening to since I used to have one. Well, anoother employee was the issue
The other guy had a calibur, plain old calibur. Of course I asked him (since he was young and into that stuff) why he didn't go for the srt. The next part really gets to me. He said because (essentially) it was not only cheaper to get the low end model and do an srt swap, but it was more of a "car guy" thing to do
After crunching the numbers at me, I posed some obvious comments: "you may have the engine, but I'm pretty sure the srt had a different suspension at least, not to mention all the other little details like transmission, any framework, cosmetics"
He had an answer to each.
The thing is I wasn't so much angry as I was annoyed, because I (as I'm sure a lot of other young ppl were) was one of those teens that thought I could do all this cool stuff to my car, and all I thought about was the money aspect. I mean, this guy was willing to take a regular calibur, and make it into an srt with little other thought than it costing a few thousand to do it
I just kinda walked away after that
