What is that black piece on top of rear bumper under the hatch?

I'm looking for it online but don't know what it's called! I think it's great because it protects the bumper from getting scratched. Where can I get it and what is it called? It's like a scuff-pad protector made of black plastic. Help appreciated! Thanks.

yeah, a while back I got rear-ended so when they were repairing the bumper they had to replace the protector, I'm pretty sure it showed on the invoice as $35 or so. Just make sure you line it up really good when applying it, there's no real application guide, it's attached with double-sided tape. An extra pair of hands to do the job would be recommended.

protegegarage.com used to have them I just looked and don't see it anymore. You could try to email them and see if they could get one for you.

they are some on ebay and at a online mazda dealer. i almost bought one along with the cargo net and cargo plastic board but never did

*edit:
ocmazda got rid of them as well. ebay may be your best bet now.

they might. have to go and check. most sites that had them dont have them anymore (same goes for most other accessories too)

yeah i remember seeing it not too long ago on mazdastuff.com but its not there anymore

ive got one, came with the car. gives just a little bit of accent on the bumper which i like, also protects it from scratches when i put my bikes in and out

just picked one up from the local mazda dealer. $22.73 is what they took me for. I just got a new puppy and thought it would be good to have when she's big enough to be getting in and out of the car.

Damn that's a good deal. How's it connect on? I'll check the Canadian dealer today and post what I find.

The install is easy. You clean the bumper then rub it down with a rubbing alcohol wipe that they provide. There is molding tape already on the bumper guard. There are spacers that they supply that you use for positioning the guard and press. The instructions provided are straight forward.

I remember installing the one on my car when we first got it back in 2001. There are also little arrows on it that line up with the bumper mounting bolts. I highly recommend that thing, mine is on there to cover up scratches and it protects the bumper well.
