I was talking with Anarchistchiken the other day about his headlamps, and how I wanted to paint mine black. He said that if I came out, we could swap them because he wanted a new set of chrome one's to paint. So, I make the 2.5 hour drive out to Alabama Saturday evening, and meet him at Matty P's house. He was working on his exhaust. He just installed an OBX header, MAM midpipe, and a Magnaflow cat-back. He was having all kinds of problems with the MAM midpipe not fitting up correctly. Anyways...that's not the point of this story.
I came out Saturday to go the the drag strip with Matty to see what kind of times he would put down with his (unmentionable). I also wanted to see what kind of slow time I could put down. Matty called 3x to see if they were racing because it was raining here and the strip is about a hour north. Each time he called, they said they were running cars. When we get up there, they tell us it's gonna be about 30 minutes because they're having to dry the track. After 30 min it's still raining and they give everyone rainchecks. I tell them i'm from GA, and ask to have my $10 back. The guy was cool about it and gave me back my money.
Sunday rolls around, and Matty and I go get lunch, watch Transformers the Movie, then finally get started working on the cars around 2. He helps me remove my bumper and headlamp. Then comes up with an idea for a mod. [see attached pictures] Then he proceeds to start removing the plastic on the driver side fog light insert. While he's doing that, I proceed to removed the bumper and headlights from Anarchistchiken's car....who still hasn't shown up.
I get get his bumper and headlights off. While I'm putting my HID bulbs into the new black headlights....he finally decides to show up. Matty is still working on my grill insert; I'm struggling with the clips on the HID bulbs. I get the bulbs in and headlights mounted. Right as I'm about to start mounting my bumper....it starts to rain. Now where Matty lives, he doesn't have a paved drive way, so when you try to jack the car up...the jack just sinks into the wet ground. I'm stuck here.
Later on I go to dinner with Matty and his wife. On the way I see a DIY car wash place. "That's where I can put on my bumper," I say. So after dinner, we pack up my bumper in the back and drive to the carwash. When we get there I realize I left the screwdriver at Matty's. After some struggling we get the bumper on. I was going to drive home, but with the rain and being dark....i'm just waiting til Monday morning.
So what was planned to be a 24hr trip has been extended to 44hrs.
