What have you done to your P5 today?

replaced the driver side lower control arm today...Finally the driver side looks the same as the passenger=D

yeah those doors are flippin sweet!! ive been meaning to make my plaid/flannel shift boot but just havnt done it yet

Thanks! I've been toying with the idea of doing the shift boot in the plaid too. How are your lights coming along?

started polishing my extra valve cover. (only an hour put into that)
once i put this one on, il do my stock cover and sell it here!

Looks good! I need to polish mine. So how long did it take to disassemble the cover? You said only an hour and you were able to do the cam covers? I almost don't wanna take the time to do mine if it means I won't have a vehicle for a day.

How much do you plan to sell yours(once it's polished for)?

been too busy and havnt been able to touch them. still need to find some new nuts for the back of the reflector for the adjusters.

Stupid question, but at which of these lines is the two halves of the bearing allowed to rotate?

I ask because I was looking at my old steering knuckle last night and noticed that the whole bearing seemed to be spinning in the knuckle. So either the bearing seized and spun in the knuckle OR the part of the bearing that stays stationary can't be seen from the back of the knuckle.

The piece inbetween 1 and 2 will rotate. The inner race will stay stationary, and the outer race will stay stationary, once installed.

That makes perfect sense, I'm dumb.

The inner race and the middle ring were definitely stuck together. I'll take a better look at it tonight.

Better to ask than assume, right?

I've been screwing with wheel bearings myself lately. Not on my P5, but on my BMW, so my mind is in bearing visualization mode.

i actually just bought an MSP valve cover (since it has the screws to put the black cover on) so i havnt taken my stock one off yet.
though i have done it with other cars and it really doesnt take long to just swap out (its mostly waiting time to let the rtv sit in)

i havent thought of a price for the next valve cover though.... i guess it depends on how nice it turns out. i might just take offers or even possible trades (the $$ is all gonna stay with the P5)

I'm in bearing shopping mode at the moment :P

I was going to get those $40 Value Pro rear bearing+hub units from rockauto but I read a bunch of horror stories about the quality of those parts. So I'm looking at getting a Timken or Moog part instead, because I don't want my wheel to fall off.

I had to duct tape my intake tube because it had some holes in it. I had a lose of about 10hp before the duct tape and now it runs normal again.

so i did some more work on the valve cover (about 2 hours) and did a mock up just to get an idea of what its going to look like.
its by no means show room quality yet (and it never will be) but it looks 203942348659 times better then what it was before.
im not gonna do the entire cover. im just gonna do the parts that are visible (so just the neck on the cap) and possibly the sides.

im quite happy with how its coming out. too bad not many people will see it >.<
tell me what you think!

I'm debating on hitting it with an orbital sander. but I'm still not sure if that would be too much. and i really don't know what I'm doing with the polish haha. I don't no if I'm using the right compound (you'd think i would know since i work at harbor frieght) but for going at it blind, i really like it

Whenever you polish something, you never want to use anything orbital. At least not when your sanding, I found that when you work your way up to finer and finer grits it works really good if you alternate directions. IE: sand horizontal with 400, then vertical with 600, then horizontal with 800, and so on until you hit 2000 grit.

I use this s*** called blue magic or something like that lol it smells absolutely terrible but it works awesome

Had to take the bus today because it's raining outside. My car's in the garage because it takes on water faster than the Titanic...

Phen, I took a better look at the bearing last night and it really looks (and feels) like the outer race is spinning in the knuckle. I can't believe how long I was able to drive around with it making that horrible sound =/

I'm guessing that the bearing wasn't completely seized and would only spin in the knuckle when I heard that grinding noise, otherwise I don't understand how that knuckle wouldn't get red-hot after a long drive. Keep in mind that I'd been hearing that sound for over 15K Km, it just got worse over time.

Now I'm wondering if my rear bearing is going to be similar, I really don't want to replace a rear spindle...

Rear bearings are a completely different beast. You can get a hub assembly for those.
