What have you done to your P5 today?

Getting a hesitation/stutter when going anywhere past approximately 4-5 psi. The car also stumbles at idle sometimes and goes all the way lean on the wideband. Tuning is done via FM o2 voltage clamp and begi fpr. Stock mazdaspeed setup with Jen's altered customs (ebay) fmic. Everything has worked perfectly fine for the last 17000 miles up until now. Any idea? I'll answer any questions I can to help figure out what the hell it is.

Does it happen at a certain RPM? Im kinda getting the same thing. I believe its not boost related though...

I don't know about a certain rpm but the car literally stutters. You can hear it and feel it. It kind of sounds like a machine gun that's muffled. I'm not getting any misfire codes though...

i had that problem and after awhile it got worse it ended up bein my coil packs.. didn't pull anycodes either..

I think I might head to autozone and pick up new coil packs and plugs. We'll see after that. It's times like this that I hate myself for ever modding the car lol.

pretty sure thats what it iss.. its exactly what my car started doin and after awhile it wudn't let me hit more the like 4psi without stuttering.. i cleaned all my sensors even replaced both o2sensor nothing changed put new packs wire and plugs and the car ran like a champ

Just got back from autozone. Brand new plugs, coils, and wires. I'm gonna let the car cool off and then try only replacing the plugs. If that doesn't work, the coils and wires will follow. If that doesn't fix it, I'll revert to cussing and swearing at the car. Alex (scratchnsniff) seems to be having the same problem and he's also gonna be troubleshooting it. After driving it to autozone and back, I can say the car stumbles no matter what rpm range and regardless of boost or not. It definitely does the muffled machine gun sound under more than 4 psi of boost but I haven't gone into boost since I found that out. Trying to avoid any bad damage that can be caused by this problem that is probably cause by something little (I hope).

x2...about to start working on mine....had the fan sitting on it here for a bit and it is almost cooled down enough to start messing with...

ouch. What happened?

That's what it's for......jk what happened? Your not boosted right?

Edit KL swap!!

That sucks, man. But of all the places for the motor to go, at least she blew at the track. It's kinda like dying of old age or going out with a bang at the age of 35. BEst of luck on the next motor or whatever you decide to do with the P5.

It finally realized that it's an FS-DE and fulfilled its role?

Yea it's a bummer, Nope still N/A. I think I spun a rod bearing, there's no hole in the block but it never burned any oil either.. I came out of a turn and gave it gas and it just fell on its face so I limped it back in to the pits and it had a pretty noticeable knock at idle. The oil was two quarts low and I had no choice but to try and limp it home, I couldn't leave it at the facility. I made it about 10 miles and it finally popped. I haven't had a chance to look at the car. I had it towed to a friends house that was close to where I broke down. I probably won't make it back down there until next week. I'm not sure what I'm gonna do at this point but I'm gonna look at all the options for sure. KL swap is tempting though...

Just installed the new plugs and no more stumbling. The underlying problem is still there though. It idles like s***. I'm gonna try to track down the problem over the next couple weeks or I'll be going through new plugs every few thousand miles. Fuel injector o-rings and seals are next on the agenda. I might end up getting a new Canadian EGR valve as well. Gonna look into ways of detecting a boost leak (carb cleaner, boost leak tester blah blah blah). Trying to get everything figured out before winter.

starter fluid works your jist spray it around all your pips and vac lines if there's a leak the idle will go up when you spray the leak.. n as for the idle cud be your iac too

I'm hoping its not my IAC. those little fuckers are expensive. I'm thinking that if it's not a boost leak, it might be the EGR again. When I had it replaced, I had a shop do it cause I was in the beginning of freshman year at college and I don't know what brand they put in. If it's fouled up again, I might just get the Canadian version and replace it. That's last on the agenda though. I heard of someone on here fixing their bad idle (explained it exactly the way mine is) by replacing the plastic gasket/spacers at the fuel injectors. I also have to change out one of the o-rings since it was from autozone but seemed a little too thin. It doesn't leak fuel but it might be pulling air somehow. All of these are shots in the dark. I don't have the technical knowledge to say definitively what it is, but I'll troubleshoot it step by step and hopefully find it. If anyone has any ideas or advice, please let me know. I'm still learning about cars in general on this platform.

Did you change your coils fish?

No I didn't. I wanna drive it around a bit and see how it is. When the idle drops, The vacuum reading goes from 20 in to around 15 which leads me to believe that it is a boost leak. I don't wanna install the new coils if they're not the problem since the coils and wires cost me about 80 bucks and I can return them. I put new coils and wires in about 17k miles ago when I turboed the car.

Ahh ok. I would suggest spraying the started fluid to check for leaks. It helped me find them when I installed my 440 injectors.
