What have you done to your MSP today?

Thank you guys! Can I drive it a little without the belt? Just enough to get to an advance auto shop or should I just play it safe?

Put water in it run your heat full blast and get it to somewhere you can get a belt

Just FYSA, My belt broke a while ago on my MP3. After I shut it off (boiling coolant over and all of the above), it wouldn't start anymore. The alternator belt ended up wrapped up in the timing belt, and locked the main shaft up too tight to turn over. I tore it all down and put a new head gasket in, but might not have had to do that if I had seen the belt earlier in the tear down.

Don't overheat it!!!

This is the best advice, you will damage something major if you overheat. If the water temp gauge starts moving at all from halfway, time to pull over right away. Because that gauge is so inaccurate, that usually by the time it is moving the coolant is already too hot

When my belt snapped on my MP3, I drove it an exit on the highway before I pulled over. Water did get hot, but not boiling. You should be able to drive a couple of miles. Just watch the temp gauge like a hawk

Thank you everyone. The water temp gauge was close to H when i noticed. I immediately pulled over and shut it off. I had it towed to my uncles house. Hopefully the head Gasket wasn't damaged. It's funny because the tow truck driver LOVED the Mazdaspeed protege and never seen one in person, and has been looking for one to buy for awhile.

I also get car compliments when I'm not looking for them. lol

I hate hearing this bad news because all I have is good news and I don't wanna be THAT guy.

I'm towards the end of a buying frenzy:

SSAFC v2
AEM wideband
Megan Trailing arms
Go Fast Bits MBC
Plenty of 3" Pipe to build all the way back (and a V-band to play with)
A 500W inverter for my old laptop (for ssafc) - getting hardwired under pass seat

Just gotta get this flywheel resurfaced and I'll be doing the clutch and slave cylinder.. and all the above. Plus a bunch of stuff not listed like my rear door, rear springs, painting front lip.. etc. Its gonna be a busy year...

Just bought a Fidanza Flywheel, this car (MSP #1345) is gonna run great once it's together... Which is looking like mid February as of right now

I went to the dyno today. There is still a ton of tuning to do (it's so rich it boggs) , but this at least gives proof of concept. It's safe to say I'll hit 375 wheel at 17-18 psi once the tuning is done.

I am doing something to my msp I just have been quiet about it but in less than a year should have it dynoed. Hoping for 250-260 whp! Fingers crossed

Glad to hear bro... unfortunately there's been plenty of people who "had" plans for the msp and then life hits them or their msp takes a crap on them and they never get to it and eventually give up. I'm happy Pope actually did. Best of luck on yours though!

Thanks guys! Right now I'm trying to plan out my return to the dyno. I would love to push it a bit and go for 400+ but my clutch isn't rated for that kind of abuse. I'm leaning toward replacing my wastegate actuator with an 8 psi unit and then I can turn things up with the boost control built into the unichip. Right now I'm running a 15 psi actuator and its creeping a few psi resulting in what will be too much power for the clutch. I made the 337 hp while way too rich and with an overly safe amount or timing pulled. Dialing those in will add a ton of power and then I'm at risk of throwing away my $500 clutch. The only way around it is to tune it back to 325 wheel with less boost and a better tune and that requires a different can... I wish there were a free and easier way to turn the boost down.

I would recommend tuning it back to 325hp but it's completely up to you. I know it's gonna work out either way!

Today will be the moment of truth. The moment where I find out if the msp's head Gasket is blown. If it is, the wife says get rid of it. If it isn't then I get to keep it. In the 2 years I've had it, it's given me smiles filled with joy but more problems than I ever imagined. God please send me a sign on what to do.
