What have you done to your MSP today?

I had to call the bank concerning my loan and the guy on the phone says this after asking about the 8 and me mentioning I also have a MSP...

"I had a MX5- that's a Miata- a couple of years ago- twin turbo. It'd fly until the transmission went out and that was $4900 to fix so I sold it after that. Man I loved that rotary engine they put in those little convertibles! I was pushing 400hp. I just had to sell it because I kept breaking everything will all that power."

Had a friend inquire about buying my MSP, being a good friend I talked him out of it since he needs a reliable dd.

It's sad that you actually have to talk people out of buying an MSP because you know all to well what he'd be experiencing all the time. My friend needs a car and has been asking if he could drive the MSP until he finds one and I told him no because he'd call me every single time something happened- noises, smells, various lights...

funny that i still haven't had a single problem with the msp... lol. only stuff ive had to do was worn out stuff thats expected but probably haven't spent 1k on her yet. though im sure after she is paid off ill have to dump a ton of money into it..having said that. but whatever, ill be able to afford it.

^^^^ thats what i used to say and BAM as soon as i make my final payment on my MSP, a week later i slam a curve and bent my lateral links, my inner and outer tie rod, control arm and strut all on my passenger side. OH and blew the tire and raaaaashed my RHs to hell and cracked my windshield from the impact.

Most of my extra expenses are because of autoX racing. Other than that I haven't had really had any problems with the car. I go through bulbs and wheels bearings more than anything.

There isn't any options, but I'm going to give my extra AWR pan a go at it this spring after I cut out the baffling.

For trap doors to allow the oil to only flow so far and not slosh all over.

I have no idea what you are talking about. My msp is an extremely reliable garage warmer.






Oh yeah so im pulling the transmission AGAIN this weeked... I hope I dont have to change the ******* synchros, they are only like 6 months old.

still curious why my clutch adjuster is so far in. is it just that worn out or is there something wrong with the hydraulics?

i wanted to get into the modding and racing scene, but then babeh came along and i decided RC was a better outlet for that need for speed... of course.. Iv'e probably dumped almost 10k into my rc now that i go to more competitions... lol. that would be almost every mod you could wanna do to the msp.
learned a lot about suspension tuning though in the sport. when i get back to the msp i wont be so clueless to that stuff me thinks.

Msp has only gone to a mechanic once in the time ive owned her.. kinda assuming it will need a bunch of stuff right when the money comes available. clutch, timing belt, water pump, turbo manifold, turbo still good but leaks a little around the oil fitting. new shocks and when would i want to consider stuff like wheel bearings? control arm bushings? they seemed kinda stiff when i did the lowering springs.

I probably wouldn't call myself a car person. i cant identify these problems. but i can fix them thanks to the how to's here at mazda forums! which is good, cause i cant afford to have the above mentioned happen to me. thus i cant afford mechanics lol.

Hi Nick,

The only question I can help with is the wheel bearings. I replaced my fronts at just over 100,000, because a mechanic told me he could hear them 'whirring', and that's the first sign of them going. I talked to a couple mechanics and they all said the fronts take a lot more strain and I probably won't have to worry about the rears for a while.

Got the replacement motor on the engine stand, and broke it down to just the block, head, and bottom end. Should be able to get the block seperated today, then start taking usable parts from the car, and adding them to the replacement block. Gotta pick up some gaskets, and fluids, but I don't see any reason it shouldn't be running by next week.

Honestly I would say only change the wheel bearings when you can clearly hear them. If you are somewhat mechanicaly inclided with basic tools just take the whole thing out and bring it to a shop to have them press in the new bearing and assemble it back yourself, thats what I did since I dont (like most people I guess) have a press at my house. It only takes them a few minutes so that should be pretty cheap.

Cost me $40 for a shop to press in a wheel bearing. unfortunately, i also needed the hub which cost me $200+

I don't know if I'm going to be able to sell it after putting all this work/money into it to get it running again, lol.
