What have you done to your MSP today?

Ugh... just got my first speeding ticket in the MSP. Dude had someone pulled over on a back road near my house. I slowed down, went by him, and then accelerated back up to speed. Well apparently he decided to stop writing that ticket, stick his radar gun out the window and "claims" he got me doing 64 in a 35. He then finished writing the dude he had pulled over the ticket, called my house to see if I was here (I had just pulled in and my mom answered the phone) and came over to give me a ticket. WTF?! ******* cop with an empty ******* life!

So of course I asked to see the radar gun or some proof that he got me going that fast. He said he couldn't, but he wasn't in the business to "make things like that up." Needless to say I'm gonna take it to court, but it pisses me off that this guy was on such a personal vendetta to give me a ticket.

At least now I can say I've been pulled over in my own driveway...

That sucks lol. But 65 in a 35? Jeez man that better be a bad radar gun or ill slap you.

Well I may have been going that fast at one point, but if you saw the road you'd understand. Its a lightly traveled back road and the place he had someone over was a long, downhill straight that you just cruise down. Average speed on the road is around 60 anyways. No I shouldn't have been speeding, but it feels like a pretty raw deal that the dude felt the need to come to my house to give me a ticket...

IIRC, you have to be coming towards the radar gun at the time of the cop lasing your car in order for the cop to get an accurate reading while lasing the front of your car. According to your post, you already passed the cop when he lased your car. So, the way I understand it, you passed the cop so he would have had to lase your car from behind as you were driving away from him. That doesn't give an accurate reading on a radar gun unless there is something I don't understand. and I would take that to court too. I have never heard of a cop going to someone's house to issue a ticket. If that's the case, every state law enforcement agency should send a squad car to everyone's house to issue random tickets because Im pretty sure a majority of each state population has driven over the speed limit at some point in their lives. I call it a complete BS ticket, he didn't pull you over so it should be dismissed

if they cant show you the radar gun for proof then they cant give you a ticket.
you should easily win that in court. law states that the radar gun can remember the last speed it recorded, so they should be able to show you. if they cant then there is no legal ticket they can give you.

not entirely true, you could still get "unreasonable and imprudent speed" (law name varies from state to state) which is essentially a judgement call by the cop.

All that counts is what is written on the ticket... From what it sounds, I have a lot going for me in this situation. If nothing else, I'll go for probation before judgment and it'll all be good anyways

I'm pretty sure the statement that a laser or radar gun having to be used head on is a common myth. I did a little searching on the subject and couldn't find any references in regards to whether laser guns used on traffic moving away from the officer are invalid. As for the cop going to your house; I'm also pretty sure that as long as he says he's sure it was you driving the car (and therefore committing the offense in his presence), then he can issue the citation wherever he likes. He simply has to witness the infraction, but the citation can be issued when he has the ability to do so. Not trying to rain on your parade, just trying to play devil's advocate :)

I don't think either of those matters were called into question.

hah. its not like i don't get it. im pretty tame on the highway/urban areas but when i get in the sticks ill let her go.

there is a road here leading up a hill that is like 3 kms of pure straight hill. cops never used to patrol it cause its 20 minutes out of town but people were getting up to 280km/hour on it on their crotch rockets.

the one day my friend got a ticket, they caught him at 160km/hour in his camero, AFTER he slammed his brakes from 240 lol...

never had the balls to do that myself. i assume the cops are out everywhere to bend me over. but i drive a bright "arrest me" yellow car..

the days that I drive hard, there are never cops out but the days that Im just cruising around not even trying to drive fast..no where near boosting, the cops are on my ass running my tags and all that other BS

All this radar gun talk reminds me. When we were traveling down to Socal my buddy had one of those radar detectors. And ive always thought those things were BS. But it actually worked. We were coming up to a overpass and it was going nuts. As soon as we pass the overpass there was a cop sitting there with a radar gun. My jaw dropped. I couldnt believe this 40 buck radar thing saved me from a 300+ dollar ticket.

yeah, they do work. Im pretty sure my Cobra is a little outdated by now but it goes off any time a cop has their radar on, if a cops lights are flashing, if I pass by an ambulance or firetruck with their lights flashing(radar detector detects strobe signals according to the manual?) It chirps once any time I pass by a police or fire station. I have a heavy foot so it really works wonders, especially at highway speeds when I sometimes catch myself going like 85+ in a 60..lol

just finished my turbolife install and relocating the maf. totally different car now. more details in the am. gotta be up for work in 5 hours.

This is the post I was responding to. The issue of the laser speed gun's accuracy and ability of a cop to write a ticket at your house are both called into question in this post (more or less). Unless I'm completely reading it wrong.

Lasing a car can be done from either the front or the rear. That's why full jammers also include rear sensors. I also know this because a cop gave me a ticket once, laser from the rear and showed me the gun. Reading was accurate.

The only reason they usually do it from the front is because it's easier, they can pull you over quicker, and in some jurisdictions it states that you have to be able to see the speed trap. And the biggest reason is, you gotta be pretty blind not to see a speed trap and slow down, so usually they won't lase you from behind...

The main thing in question for me is the fact he couldn't show me any proof that he lased or radar'd me at that speed, plus he has no proof I was driving since he never pulled me over while behind the wheel. I'll probably go for "Probation Before Judgment" since I don't have anything else on my record. Still can't believe he came to my house to give me a ticket... what a cock
