I have owned my MSP for about 5k, its now about to hit 70k miles. Other than adding a boost guage and minor trinkets I haven't had time to really delve into the car until this weekend. I was planning on running D-stock, but because of the inherent problems with a 70k protege I decided to go STX. So this weekend I 1. replaced manifold 2. replaced f/r enginemounts w/ AWRs and side inserts 3. Added S-pipe back 3 inch exhaust (currently the high flow cat is on the passenger seat) 4. Injen intake.
I have records and know the PO, this car has been pretty well taken care of but... a t70k the engine mounts were all basically gone although still fuctional. The passenger side mount had a small tear that I glued and put the insert in. I still may still need to replace that. The bad mounts make the car a pita to drive. The turbo has minor play although boosts well and has not started to self destruct. I will probably pull it off this fall and rebuild. I had an exhaust leak, I THOUGHT it was from the crack in the manifold. Turns out that the gasket between the head and manifold was leaking. The amnifold crack was only surface- I replaced it anyway. I had cold startup leakage noise and a whistle at high rpm from the leak. I cleaned the head surface with a dremel brush and put in new gaskets. No more leak. I have a new wastegate actuator, K-sports, and some new rubber on the way to finish the STX buildup in the next couple weeks. Car feels really quick although I know it could benefit from a piggyback of some sort. I don't plan to be extremely competitive but the car should be fun. Look out for some stock racing harts, 225 victoracers, and possibly some kumho mxs to be on the market soon. Anyone need a stock manifold thats starting to crack-lol.
