What have you done to your MSP today?

Can you explain how to tighten the alternator belt? Mine is starting to chirp when I start the car. Thanks

it's easy.. the alternator tensioner bracket is on the backside of the motor(with the alt).. you need to loosen the big bolt holding the alt in place, then loosen the bolt that sits sideways(slides in the bracket) then tighten up the last bolt. when all of that is done, tighten up all the bolts and be done.

well it Might when you start, cause tahts what Mine does, its just cause its to cold, after it starts up its fine.

Thanks!

make sure the belt is in fact loose before tightening it..... if the belt is reaching the end of its life.. overtightening will accelerate wear.. and you may end up stranded with a broken belt.. I did it on my intrepid trying to squeaze some extra life out of it. luckily I got home with no power steering and running the ignition off just the battery.

OH! I was going around a bend... and my PS went out on me! OMGH! it was in a Eclipse... that was SO HARD TO TURN! haha

put in NRG hood dampers. woot!

Its actually a pretty new belt; about 3k on it. I think its just stretched a little from breaking in and needs to be tightened back up a little. I loves me this forum though.... ask a question and get four responses in two minutes!

Except there is a right way and wrong way to disable power steering. The only right way is to open the rack up and remove stuff.

the... pseudo right way is to plumb both of the lines to the rack together, so that the fluid remains captured and continues to lubricate the parts. most of the guys who have tried notice little to no difference after removing the guts, but who knows, that could be application specific.

Bearing grease works great to lubricate. By looping the lines you have to still push the fluid around and fight against the seal. There is no difference at highway speeds and parts of turns, however the initial turn in is extremely slugish to the point you have to start cranking the wheel really hard really early.

like I said some guys have noticed a difference in going from plumbed back to removing the guts, others have not. from the ones I read about it seemed that the major restriction is in the pump, not the rack.

edit: thats not to say that the rack doesn't provide at least some resistance....
