What have you done to your MSP today?

thats pretty lame. not a smooth salesman for sure

Damn, get this......

I go to trade mine in (spicy with 75k on it) for a WRX (they were asking $14k). Well I only owe $7k on mine, and they offer me $3500! So I gave him the finger and said peace out. Well he grabs me and asks me how much I want for it so he can talk to the manager. I say "no less than what I owe....$7k" (which is trade in value on NADA btw). So he comes back and says "ok, we're gonna give you $7k". So I'm like "that's better", but as I sit down, he goes on to say, "Since we're giving you $3500 over trade-in (not sure where he got that), we have to go up to NADA value of the WRX, which is $17k". Needless to say, I had a few choice words for him and walked out.

A lot of salesman are a-holes and just trying to make a buck. Which I can't blame them. But don't jerk people around for it. Sorry, I had to vent.

Yeah, he must have thought I was a complete dumbass. I mean how can you mark the price up on both vehicles and think the person isn't going to notice? (uhm)

You'd be REALLY surprised how many people dont notice.. Its almost humorous, wait, it is.. (rlaugh)

Yeah, I'm sure some people would have jumped all over the "deal" I was offered because they offered to give me what I wanted. LOL. But I'm happy with the outcome. Since I've fixed all the kinks, my car is running beautifully. I'm gonna run it until the wheels fall off.

Mine does it too. Thought the belts were too loose or tight, but I checked them and its not the case. (uhm)

Replaced stock wga, broke a bolt and it took four hours to do cause of that but now im back to stock psi which is good for my peace of mind. This rdv i have is great, i like it more and more everyday, the respool is quick now. Thats gonna get me in trouble lol.

let me get this straight...you want NADA value for yours but you're not willing to pay NADA value for theirs? that's ridiculous...so because you owe 7K on yours, it should be worth more? a car is worth what it is worth...your payoff does not affect the value...and he was doing an apples to apples comparison on the numbers...i dont understand how you think yours is worth NADA value and theirs isn't...that doesn't make sense. math is math is math...and several things could have come into play over their $3500 figure. how many miles do you have? how many mods do you have? what's the condition of the car? how are the brakes, tires, etc? what region of the US do you live in? (yes, that is a factor). in today's market, i highly doubt that he's trying to rip you off. normally, dealerships expect a 60 day turn-around on their cars...but in today's market, needless to say, it's a LOT more...so they're putting money into a depreciating asset which will sit for who knows how long. personally, i think he may have hit your car a little low, but i don't know the details on it...but comparing NADA for yours vs. NADA for theirs is fair...just because it didn't work out in your favor doesn't mean they are trying to rip you off.

NADA trade in value for mine is $7k, I just happen to owe the same amount. My car is in excellent shape, with 75k on it (and no real mods, see my sig). Even the manager said it was a beautiful car and in great shape. I don't mind paying NADA for their vehicle.....if it was the original price. But don't mark it up just because I want more for mine. The value they came up with for mine ($3500) is far from what NADA says its worth. They were trying to rip me off. Plain and simple.

Edit: I'm not an idiot, I looked at the NADA value before I went car shopping, so I knew what it was worth. Plus I looked at the vehicles I was interested in online so I could get their value as well before looking at the car. I know what my car is worth, and I knew what his was worth. Somehow they came up with different numbers to work in their favor. Sorry, but in my opinion, that's a ripoff.

you all do realise that dealers do not use NADA they use somthing like the black book. its way better and more accurate than NADA. NADA is just for everyday people to get an idea on what their car is worth IMHO.

I do. Before we even began the discussion, I asked him plain as day "Do you use BLACK BOOK to determine my trade in value; because I don't want to waste my time". And he said "No, we use NADA". I totally understand the $3500 he came up with if he was using BLACK BOOK. But when I'm told they DON'T use it, then it makes me wonder where the hell he got that number. BLACK BOOK is based on whole sale value.....what the dealer can get if they have to auction the vehicle off; so I completely understand that. I'm sure some people are upset by my attitude, but I know how to car-shop....which is why I asked about the Black book. Why am I under so much fire for getting upset? Only reason I got upset in the first place is because he up'd the asking price on the WRX. All I was doing was trying to wheel-n-deal. Just like salesman do.

dealers typically use Manheim auto auctions price plus $200-$300 pending condition since they dont have to get it from the auction, but i will admit, 3.5K is low for trade in, i was offered 3 months ago $9K for mine on trade with 60K miles.. now.. keeping true to the thread, yesterday i replaced the WGA, still have to do some adjustments, its holding the WG wide open right now and i am not getting any boost, plus i went out and bought another car.. haha.. couldnt turn the deal down.. 99 cavalier for a dd commuter for $250.. WHOO HOO

Damn that's a hell of a deal.

dealers use black book...which is a compilation of the prices that the cars are going for at major auctions within a specific region.

i honestly don't understand why you want NADA for yours but you're not willing to pay NADA for theirs. those are apples-to-apples numbers.

I totally understand how the black book works. But I'm not paying more than what was advertised for his vehicle. I simply wanted more for my vehicle. He couldn't do it, so he lost out on the sale. I'm VERY happy with my MSP so I wasn't desperate enough to pay what he wanted. I just thought it was a nice car (newer with lower miles). But I'm not going to keep going off topic. End result........I still have my Spicy! (thumb)

HELL YEAH!! i talked to the guy, im getting my block, crank,Wiseco 8:5:1 pistons and Oliver rods this weekend.
