What have you done to your MSP today?

when i get some damn money... exchange is bad right now, my job is bad right now.. trying to start a freelance paint business on the side of my fulltime job. the plan wasnt to come back to the msp for 3-5 years though. i might do a little here and there on the stand, but im giving serious though to importing a sport 20 special instead.. dropping forged innards on the ZE and boosting it to the moon. 4wd familia seems to have a pretty good reputation around the world so who knows.. i wont get it if i cant get my hands on a special though.

if nothing else my msp will stick around as a clean shell til i figure out what to do with it.

stand by for a pic of why i did my hotpipe the way i did and why it ISNT a pita.. but does require removing the turbo to make the new taps.

ps, i understand how some might question the point of building the p5 with all the msp bits and leaving a perfectly good msp in the garage.. unfortunately my msp needs at minimum a shortblock rebuild and LSD replacement with trans bearings. but thats basically grounds for a full on build. its hard to say what ill actually do cause both cars are worth fk all... but the p5 is much more useful as a daily driver. the msp was always a cruiser kinda. attracts attention, sort of practical.. until you have a p5 that is.
Wait... The sport 20 familia is 4 wheel drive? Dam. I didn't know that. Lol.

"msp was always a cruiser kinda. attracts attention"

Mine doesn't attract any really. One dude at autozone asked if it was a Mazdaspeed. I was like "yeah!" all surprised and s*** that he knew.. (He owns a turbo Nissan 240) But honestly, even WITH a big ass intercooler, no black plastic in that hole, with bright blue couplers, I really haven't gotten much reception on it at all. I caught 1 SRT4 guy scoping me out.. (but to be fair I was scoping HIM out too) lol. So not really the same thing.

I wish there was a decent community where i live. I suspect there is. I live 1 mile away from a dragway. I can hear them racing with the bathroom door shut, in the shower. Thats how close. It make me want to drive up there, but I would literally be showing up like Brian Spilner, all by myself.. except in a MUCH slower car. lmao. SO I never go... they have "test and tune" every thursday night too.. WTF am I doing? I need to get this ridiculous pile of parts installed and man up and go run this thing. Its just been so hot.. so I haven't done any work. There is literally $900 worth of parts sitting on my floor, and $400.00 worth of Mishimoto in the mail. (not including the 6 or 7 hundo I spent chasing my day 4 NO START problem with new parts!) I bought the car for $2600.. so its fair to say I am WAY beyond the budget I never made (help)

So yeah. I hear ya on the money aspect of it all dude.

trust me. msp yellow attracts a lot of attention lol. esp with my hks pedestrian terrorizer

not all sport 20 familia's are 4wd. it was optional. seems to be a lot of options. 1.5/1.6 liter 2wd/4wd 5spd or AT. but the car culture is pretty different. compact cars are embraced in the rest of the world, less so in north america. its all about big displacement or big trucks. but we dont have anywhere near the taxes to pay most countries do.

im not in a hurry to get one though. i cant insure it on bc roads til 2018. ive already got one uninsured car sittin in the bush and two other ones that are lol. but who knows. i might work on my 5th familia... or just build what ive got.

Yeah I guess every place is different. Florida has a BIG car scene so I guess people notice more. I got a number of compliments the first few months I had it. This one guy asked me if I swapped a rotary engine in it. Lol. And thats also why I believe in tasteful exterior mods.

lol the eclipse was the 2.0L neon motor, not a GS-T eclipse 4g63. very different.

I've got a real nice looking LX protege sitting in a garage in ITR pearl white... good motor and trans.. haha.

agreed on this, whenever I go to my old house I always get random text like " I seen u driving down the road" haha.

or with the local ricers it never fails that I get revved on( or someone tries to race me) at least once every weekend while Im there

oh and I made a small clip of the msp (mainly for the sounds of my BOV..lol) car spools better with the authentic HKS and no more crappy china rep which I'm sure leaked boost

LOL we are talking about a movie, but for the sake of argument, I'll bite.. The bright ass green eclipse in FF1 was a 95 Eclipse, which would have the A420 motor (assuming it wasn't swapped).. But even though it wasn't a 4g63 engine, it was turbo'd out the ass in the movie.. (TECHNICALLY NOT THE DUPLICATE SHOW CAR IN THE CLOSEUPS) But you ARE left to assume that it had been swapped to a 4G63.. Otherwise when he popped his hood at that first street race, he wouldn't have gotten any credit. They would have just clowned on him.. but they made a big deal about all the work he had done.. So YEAH! it was assumed to be a MUCH faster car.. even without the swap, and his mod list would have made a A420 beat a stock MSP.

hmmmmm. my hks isn't nearly so quiet lol.. maybe ill have a friend take a vid when i drive by ;)

The insert in the HKS SSQV changes the sound dramatically, mine is a really piercing high-pitched sound, always turns heads.

I can understand wanting a Sport20 or AWD protege, but a lot of those guys around the world with those cars are probably lusting after our MSPs as we (US/Canada) were the only market to get a turbo FS.

Got my replacement trailing arms in from Rockauto it seems to me that I can remove the trailing arms with the suspension weighted. Any advice on that?

Broken arm replaced.

4wd swsp not possible without ripping up the car. Much cheaper and easier to just import an awd car.

I agree. The whole reason I have an MSP is because I was thinking about making the Tercel the nastiest Tercel ever... Then I realized it was gonna cost so much, I needed to just BUY a turbo car and save all the hassle of getting it going.. skip straight to the Turbo supporting mods instead of messing around with the Toyota for another 3 years.

Well the last 323 famillia 2.0 GT-R was 2001 it was made in left and right hand drives. it is the same platform as the protege so stands to reason that if you could get a hold of all the parts it would be bolt on no doubt that their maybe some modifications needed. But no not totally ripping up the car. That's my line of thinking.

I think the only true Toyotas that look good and can be powerfully nasty are Celica gts, supras (obviously) and that's not including Lexus or scion. So I think u made a good choice going with a msp

i think your talking about the 1991 unless you have evidence otherwise.. a nice rare care for sure, but ugly as phuc ha. the 4wd system in more modern familias is fairly similar, so its just a matter of getting your hands on one.

the only issue id have with owning the 4wd though is getting parts for the drivetrain. it wouldnt be NEARLY as well documented as our cars are. pretty much every element of the BJ protege is well documented on this site and even with no car experience "Me" you can take it all apart and fix it yourself. throw jdm into that mix.. who knows what would happen. I prob wouldnt build the crap out of the sport20 if i got it. just a mild boost similar to my p5. but as i get older.. this stuff matters less and less. all it takes is for them to bring back aircare in my province and id be totally screwed.. even on the stock turbo setup.
