What have you done to your MSP today?

once I get mine where I want it performance wise, she will be a DD with some track time and I'll be starting on an evo 8 or 9, which will be the track monster

Congrats man. If I remember it correctly, you had a pretty cool MSP. Good luck with the new Honduh :D.

Yeah my msp was sweet for sure. However, it was definitely getting up there in miles, and it had been in an accident. When I was offered 6k for it, I took it

Wait, what?

We are losing OG MSP owners too fast.

I didn't want to go brother, trust me. Its just everything with this deal honestly worked out too well for me not to. I really couldn't pass it up.

I'll never get rid of my MSP.

Yeah, I thought so to until a dealership is desperate to sell a car, and gave me what I was asking, came down to what I was asking, and my interest rate on my loan with tiny, and I financed almost nothing.

I've put far to much money into my MSP to part with it on a trade in.

Yeah, I had a s*** ton of money into my msp for sure. However, if I was going to sell it outright I still probably couldn't get 6k for it. I see a ton of msps around here for sale that are as nice as mine and they cant get 7k or anywhere near that. Everyone wants to offer like 4500 or so.

Trust me, I LOVE the mazda community. I STILL own a miata, and will be driving it everyday. Its just in this day and age, it was a wayyyy smarter investment to get rid of the msp. A lot of people don't have money to pay top dollar for cars like dealerships can. Not to mention on the flip, they are able to get cars on the cheap as well. So when you take advantage of both of those you can get a good deal. Think of it this way, the book trade in on my car in perfect condition was only 5k. My car had been in an accident, and it had its share of MINOR issues. For example, ABS issue, highly modified, idle was crap, AC was crap, bald tires, etc. So most places were offering me 4k which in there eyes was generous. I went to the dealership late in the business day and toward the end of the month (could be the best time to buy a car since dealers could be desperate). They were not trying to work with me at first, but once I showed them that I have awesome credit, they were willing to let me drive off the lot with the car without even talking to a bank because no matter what I paid for the car I'd be approved. I didn't take advantage of that but I knew I'd fall in love with the car can pay top dollar. The dealership had some cookout the next day and everyone that came had credit issues and they didn't sell any cars. So they called me back, said they were willing to work with the terms I described. So I went to my bank, got a loan, and went and picked up my car. All in all, I financed a very small amount. On a car that has only 30k on the clock, factory warranty for another 3 years, NO cosmetic blemishes, clean carfax, and more features than the msp. Not to mention its bone stock, and has brand new tires the dealer just put on. AC thats ice cold without my idle sucking was awesome over the last 2 days when its over 100 degrees here. 6speed tranny is fun too. Parts are wayyyy cheaper, and I'm not in the mood to mod it like the msp, since the lack of turbo. I just want to be low and slow in a car that I know is reliable, super smooth, and still fun to drive. In case you forgot its got more hp than a stock msp.

Damn if thats teh case I might even ditch my MSP after just putting roughly 2.3k into it! I have roughly 4-5k inot it in just repairs... its pretty much a brand new car for the most part... The biggest part that im looking forward to is no car payments with in a year hopefully!

Yeah and thats what I'm afraid of. I'm getting out of the navy in a couple years and wont have no where near the income I do now. So, I don't want to be driving a car that could have a serious failure, just by driving it like a regular car. I don't beat on my cars, like ever. So therefore, NA will last a lot longer than FI due to the nature of the beast. NA generally have a lot longer lives than FI cars. I do "spirited" drives (no hard launching, just highway rolls) but that involves boost on the msp and with the skinny rods and oil system problems, it just asking for failure on a regular bases. We won't even mention the transmission woes.

I hear you on that.. I jsut replaced my broken diff with a mfactory diff so I wont have to worry about that and the trans was rebuilt roughly a year ago. And as far as the rods go. You really only have to worry about if you **** the car past red line, beat the ever living piss out of it and last but not least running more then stock boost.

What a lot of people fail to realise is that the car was only designed to handle so much safely. How many 100% stock msp's do you see with a blown motor? I have yet to see one but the diff is another story. lol

As for the stock msps blowing their motor, I'd say its not as many as it used to be. When I first got my msp, there were a lot more blown motors. I'm sure we couldn;t even find all the zoom zoom boom boom threads.

some of those were probably people who were looking for quick power(turning up the boost) without proper mods or tuning

I agree with Spiced on the below.

I think thats the biggest issue with the zoom zoom booms aside from a bad ass tune. After all the car did come out int he F&F ear so I'm sure your onto something spiced. Trust me I loved my car at 10psi but turned it back down to 5psi. yes its less then stock but also safer IMO. then again I also put out stock power levels at 5psi compared to 7psi on a 100% stock MSP.

Most people now who are doing their MSP's are taking the time and doing it right. However the protege is a dead platforum now and parts will only be harder to find cheaply. With that said the high end parts will still be on the market for a nice build years down the road and good blocks will also be cheaper. Aside from out bad ass rods I think the lack of a tuning solution is what wills our platform.

I hope you enjoy the Civic. The car I drive when the MSP is down is an 09 Civic, It's a great car and drives like a spaceship because it's so smooth and quiet. I love the reliability (only thing is the trunk release tab broke a week after we bought it), and gas mileage but the only thing that drives me crazy is it's an automatic and it's so frustratingly slow compared to my MSP even when stock. The handling with the skinny tires it has is nothing compared to the mazdaspeed, but not many cars are anything compared to the MSP. But if you fix the lack of power, better trans, and suspension which is exactly what the SI is, you would have a great car that probably gets a good 1-2 mpg better than a DD MSP. My parents all have Hondas now and my dad wants an AP2 S2000 to build into a track car, I hope they don't turn me to the darkside but now that I say that, there was a time when I wasn't crazy about Mazdas either.

On the way to the Mazda meet yesterday the Corksport braided clutch line that had been leaking since I installed it completely blew and fluid went everywhere. Luckily I already told them it was leaking and they sent me a new one that was at my house, in 22 minutes I had the old one out, the new one in, the clutch bled and was back on the road. I hope this one holds, has anyone else had any problems with the Corksport line? I know others are using it, unless there is a better brand to buy?

True, I never really had any problems with mine. Any big ones anyway and I was running a 28RS for 2 years at 10psi. A lot of it has to do with the driver and so on. However, it has it always be in the back of your mind, like you said earlier.

Don't get me wrong. The si from 06-08 has had some transmission issues. However, honda unlike mazda with the lsd issued a TSB and you can get it fixed for free. The SIs and the RSX-s have the same motor and trans. The issue was the synchro in 3rd gear. It won't leave you stranded like the msp lsd issue. It will just pop out of 3rd or be hard to put into 3rd. Not as bad as, dead on side of road. Which could be 100s of miles from your house.

I think you right it has a lot to do with paying attention to your car when your on it. I also think mazda should of done a recall on the LSD issues. I was lucky as hell with my diff breakage.. i was literally right outside my house less then a 1 mile away and was able to lim the car home. As far as the honda having issues no matter what car you goto it will have issues of some sort.. Either way you look at it both issues cost big money to fix and require to tear down the trans.

my LSD broke a few years back and left me stranded at 2am. Got it towed to my house and to a shop that day. Played the system a little bit and got it replaced "under warranty". If it breaks this time, oh well...MFactory is on the to do list anyway

Minerva rear motor mount installed but not torqued down. What a pain in the ass it was getiing it to line up.

i want a mfactory....but then again, my 225k mile lsd hasnt failed yet(knock on wood) and i definitely beat the hell out of it. mfactory is on the "to do list" though

and s far as getting rid of my msp, at 225k miles ill never be able to get rid of it. oh well though. i love the msp, and dont feel ashamed to spend money on it as this is only the third time the car has left me "stranded" in almost three years of ownership, all of which were maintenance related(timing belt/water pump, head gasket, turbo seals) im pretty happy with my msp. and for those of you who dont believe i beat the ever living s*** out of my msp, ask my local friends on here. But that the thing about my msp, she loves it rough ;)

and my turbo rebuild kit came in yesterday

I had to grind just a bit off the front bolt hole of the rear motor mount but otherwise it fit fine. I'm glad I don't have to do that rear mount ever again.

Your using a torque wrench? the easiest way to get the mounts in and out is with an impact. If you dont have one, trust me, you should invest in one. Best thing I ever bought

I worked at a local Honda dealership for a couple years, starting around 05 I think. I got to drive my fair share of new gen SI's and I will admit they very smooth minus the 3rd gear issue that Kamon mentioned. But they quickly made a fix for that so it's no big deal. For some reason I just don't really want a Honda. Most people see them as an all around awesome car, but maybe I just like to go against the grain. Despite the issues I've had with my MSP, it is the only one in town and I like being different. Not to mention I've spent countless amounts of money on it and it is finally starting to pay off with increased power. All I need is a tune to bring out the best.

Anywho, best of luck to you Kamon and I hope you still stick around the forums with some updates on your miata.
