Guy at a local mod meet had the same issue, we just threw a scrap piece wood under the battery to fill the void.
My tire turned out to be crap, and could not be plugged. Luckily I found a used tire, same size, with very similar tread left over compared to my other three tires so I said throw it on lol. Only cost me $75 (as to replacing all 4), and in the summer I'll be running on a new set of summer tires.

I was wondering about what I could put there. I don't have anything on hand that will work. I'll have to look for something or create something. It starts well but it is up to 30 degrees as opposed to -4 on Sunday. It is also idling around 500 rpm. Strange.
Now I need to get an oil change and new brakes.

Wouldn't it be easier and make more sense to keep the battery lower and to use the wood on top between the battery and the tie-down? I'm not sure how much shorter it is, but unless you'd have trouble connecting the terminals, lower weight = better, and I'd think you could quite easily make a block of wood with a slight groove in it that wouldn't shift around on you.

I would think you could get shorter bolts from the auto parts store to tie it down

Take a look under your hood, it wouldn't quite work that way.
The battery hold down bolts to the car body at that height.

Took a new sig pic this morning of the speed an vette. 
I painted that lower portion this weekend. yes painted. Its a paint on rubber that can be peeled off if I ever decided to take it off. Best stuff I have ever used. napa sells it as special order for 12 bucks a can but home depot has them for 5 bucks and plentiful.

Ok, Havent't removed the battery. Thought might be be like j-bolts or easily removed.

Electrical stuff is always like that. I messed up something when I wired in my boost gauge, probably too many things on the same circuit, so the auto dimming and compass functions of my mirror quit working (the Homelink still does though). But, the dimming and compass came back for a few days, then went away, then came back...it may be temperature dependent but I'm not sure yet. I just need to sit down and rewire the thing and try to get it all sorted out, but it's annoying that it works and then doesn't.
If I told you I would have to kill you first.
