Lovely adventure tonight. I've had a faint foul smell in the garage lately that I haven't been able to find. The weather's been heating up lately and the smell got worse quickly. I'm out there earlier, following my nose around, trying like hell to find it. I took my CX-5 out of the garage so I had more room to look around. As I'm walking back to the garage, I get a strong whiff of it near the car. Nah... can't be. In the garage, the smell was gone. Walk back to the CX-5... uh oh... pop the hood and got a nose full! Dammit, dammit, dammit. Long story long (and I'll skip the pics) but a small bird had gotten trapped just below the A/C condenser and has been there long enough for nature to start working in reverse. Just what I wanted to do tonight... cleaning up that disgusting mess!! Glad I had some extra N95 masks to get through that. Freaking nasty.
I feel your pain, and then some!!!
Not car related but stink related, nonetheless.
We had a bad smell (dead animal for sure) in one of the rooms of our basement, but only when the wind would blow from the west. Strange.
After some investigation with my nose, both inside and outside, I determined that there was something dead under the cement stoop at the front of our house. Years ago, I had built a deck on the front of the house and the decking surrounded the stoop now. So that meant that I had to pull some deck boards off to inspect under the stoop. I have a borescope camera, I used that to see what's what under the stoop once I had access.
YUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It was a dead possum! I'll spare you the details, but it seemed that the thing had died sometime over the winter or sometime in the fall and froze over the winter months. When it warmed up outside and thawed, well, you get the picture.
I almost threw up a couple of times getting that mess cleaned up, but it's done now, and the smell is gone.
I had planned on replacing all the deck boards on this deck anyways this year with composite boards. I just didn't want to do it this early, but it's now done. While I had all the boards off and access to everything underneath the deck, I went ahead and MADE SURE that no other critters could get under there any longer. I'll be finishing up this project today.
