What gas to use in Canada (not octane but gas station)

Hey guys, just wondering what gas stations are best for P5's here in Canada, more specifically Montreal.(canada)

When i had my 2000 Maxima i would use V-power from Shell cause i heard it was one of the better gasses, so i'm using regular shell gas right now. I read up on the board and a lot of people are saying that Shell gas is crappola. What should i be using here in Mtl? Esso/Petro Canada/Canadian Tire/Ultramar/Shell? Those are the main gas stations here in the city.

Thank you!

From last time I read a few months ago. Petro is safe and Esso has greatly improved.

Shell has an additive (which I can't remember) in Canada that "supposedly" craps out the engine.

It's probably true that all the gas stations share a common distributor/refinery (?) but I'd still avoid Shell like the plague.

Too bad there's no Sunoco in Montreal.
When I'm there I try to avoid filling up anyways b/c your gas is so much more $$$ than in Toronto.

Petro and irving both suck! Highest water contect ive ever seen in gas.

Esso is next up the later, ill use it if i have to.

Ultramar is next. I like there gas.

Shell is the best for me. Its the only gas my 91 Tsi awd would run properly on!

Esso usually run a little bit more Kms than others~! But I think in performance shell is good for power~!

i heard their v-power is very good gas (91 octane) but i have no idea how good their regular gas is! (eyeballs)

Esso and Petro are the best.

I tried several times Couche-Tard, and my milege sucked big time....and it's not psychological (sp?)

Well it kinda has to be a little psychological, if you can get 100 people and they will all give you different companies. Why don't you call up mazda and ask them which gas is better. They will probably answer 87 and up. That's it.

I've seriously never noticed a difference between any of the major stations, and I've been paying attention too.

my car runs like crap on co-op, safeway and save-on gas. must be something about gas from grocery stores? i just use shell v-power and call it good (i have long reach plugs... used normal gas before. still ran good)

The oil companies in Canada have petro sharing. Depending on the location of their various refineries and terminals they fill their trucks at eachothers refineries. When I worked at the Petro canada refinery in oakville - which closed a couple of years ago - you would see esso and shell tankers filling up at the refinery. Apparently they put their special blend of additives in later, but who knows if that always happens. And of course, gas from any one refinery is pumped to many distribution centers. So the gas from any one brand should be as good as the gas from any other.

There should be virtualy no water content in gas. Water doesn't dissolve or stay in suspension in gas to any meaningful level for any length of time. If you are finding water in your gas then the problem is probably with the local station and their tanks or lines. If you are finding water in the gas at a certain gas station, talk to the manager/owner. If they don't care, contact the head office of the company. They are very serious about any leaks from station representing their brand and a resolution will be found.

Oh, and "independant" stations, such as canadian tire, safeway, sobeys, suny's, co-op all buy their gas from one or many different major companies. So with a little research you can figure out who buys from whom and save yourself a few cents a litre.

Honestly when i ran my tsi off of petro or esso i would loose upwards of 100km a tank. There gas here in nova scotia is s***. Irving was thesame. Low quality gas = detonation for me. Never had an issue off shell supreme. Hell i could run more boost of shell and not have any issues at all.

well are you comparing shell supreme to esso supreme. You have to be comparing the same grade of octane. For example Petro has that 94 octane that no one else has (at least not that I have seen) . So I can not compare the other gas to that one.

All we get here is 91 and im compared 91 from all the local stations.

So far i've used 4 tanks of shell and no complaints as of yet. Next tank maybe i'll try something else and compare

where i come from, gas comes from 2 different places. one is edmonton, the other is some place in BC. i'm not sure which stations get their gas from which refinery, all i know is every time i fill up at safeway i only get like 300km to a tank and at shell i get about 450km
