2002 Mazda Protege5
ok, I have a 2002 Mazda Protege5, it started acting weird and all points went to the fuel pump, replaced that, now it's still doing the same thing, chugs when you can get it to start, and as soon as you hit the gas, it dies.. Had it towed to the shop, ran tests, said it's getting 10lbs of fuel pressure, and it's the fuel pump. So, we replaced the new pump with another new pump, and it's still doing the same thing. Any ideals what else I need to check?

Here's some stuff from the FSM.

Had a similar problem with my son's 02 P5. Ended up being a crack in the hose that connects the air filter box to the throttle body. Got a new hose from Autozone and the problem was solved.

Hope this helps.

Did you have your fuel pressure tested after installing the new fuel pump ?? Are you still at 10 lbs of fuel pressure ??

Did you replace the fuel filter housing as well as the fuel pump ?? Your high pressure fuel filter is inside the plastic housing,... it could be clogged up.

had some one else look at it, it seems to be getting gas, but nothing on the return. now all points seem to be going to the computer, everything else has been checked that can be. and there's no scrap yard near us that has this car that ic an get a good computer out of, $400 for a new one, things seem to be going from worse to worse

There are used computers online and maybe even on this site's classifieds,... they should be around $100. Check into online wreckers,... they can mail it to you.
