What do u think about the new 2009 Mazda 6?

Nice review Antonio. Your thoughts are very similar to mine. I'd like to see the V6 come in stick, or perhaps another Mazdaspeed model with a turbo. The exterior doesn't sell me, but I like it better than any of the competition, and I completely agree with our "sporty family car" conclusion.

I enjoy the look of the new 6, as said before I'd like to see a manual transmission offered with the V6 engine.

How about a Mazdaspeed with Ford's Ecnoboost V6 engine. That would be a blast!

A Nissan Titan rear ended a '09 Maza 6 turning into our dealership and the TITAN got all eff'd up! Front smashed in...bumper hanging off and the 6 had cosmetic damage to bumper, trunk lid won't close. Now that I think about it I should have taken some pics of the Titan, but we were all too busy busting a gut. It was so classic. The owner of the Titan would look at her trunk then at the 6 shaking her head. It was funny as sh*t.

i think the new 6 is garbage! I think mazda went the wrong way 100%
way too big, way too heavy, ugly, looks half like a rx-8 half like a huge sedan ...not what i wanted to see!

I also heard there most likely won't be a new mazda speed 6 at least for this new generation THANK ****!

They should just take the European and Japanese version of Mazda6 here instead of making a different and bigger version. The North America version simply doesn't good as good as the European/Japanese version.

Just let those who can't fit inside the smaller version buy other cars like SUV.

I think you're commentary is "Garbage!", "went the wrong way 100%", and "not what I wanted to see!"

Thanks

Yeah I agree about the 6 speed as well. So my friend at work put a deposit on the 6i 6 speed stick. Add another good guy to the family. We're slowly taking over the world...moooohahahahahahah.

Every time I see a new 6 on the road, it just looks so....large! not tight and athletic like the old model or the MS6. It doesn't look bad, but it's not what I was hoping for.

Yeah it doesn't hide it's length as well

Yeah I would agree that light colors don't hide the 6's length all that well. The direct side view is it's least flattering, which isn't surprising since that's the main difference between the us and euro model. It's best angles is from the front and rear. Black seems to be it's most flattering color. Still if the added length contributes more sales that steal away from the hondas and toyota competitots hen it isn't such a bad thing. Unlike some I think Mazda balanced their principles with selling out. Now the late 90's 6 was a perfect example of blatantly selling out. The new version is far from vanilla.

While I do wish it hadn't gotten so big, I think they did a good styling job. Like pretty much any other car, it looks kinda crappy in base trim with the small wheels, and silver seems to be the worst color. I saw a picture of a silver "i" online and you couldn't give it to me. But a fully decked out "S" in the right color is a very handsome car. Looked at a Black Cherry "S" at Town North Mazda last weekend...I was impressed.

Mazda had little choice but to 'push the walls out' size-wize considering its competitors' current size. But IMO it's the best looking of the Honda / Toyota / 6 trio. That new Accord is hideous, and the Camry puts me to sleep just looking at it.

agreed.

I actually want to punch the Camry

The grille and rear end make me want to punch the Camry. Everyone complains about the Mazda grille being too "happy". I'd rather have "happy" than the camry or accord "grumpy". Yes and the Black Cherry is nice...

I thought I was going to love black cherry . . . clean and in the right light, it's nice, but Black and Red are really the nicest even dirty.

I can't see why the silver one is bothering people . . . I saw one the other day and, yes, it's much more low-key than the other colors, but it's still a sexy-six.

I'm glad they stepped up with this platform on size, since the previous gen were not even on the table with kids . . . or rear passengers  I was 1 week away from a new Accord, then I found out the crash tests were improved (5 star rollover on a midsize? nice.).

I didn't test drive an Altima, which I'm told is the closest contender to the 6 . . . EVERYONE told me not to bother with camry ;)

Was that with or without the side curtain airbags?

Just went back and looked. I was mixed up with model years. The mazda3 was the awful one until the 2010 redesign. The 6 was better in 2006-2008, (with SAB) but didn't get the full five stars on the sides until the 2009 redesign.

Interestingly, they have 2010 test results up there already.
