hey i'm near here, and i was out with my friend last night and thought we would stop by the mazda dealer to see if there was any mazdaspeed proteges and there was a black one outside, after looking over everything i stood back and was surprised i loved it, i found my sport compact car mag from october 2002 where they test drove it and says it is front wheel drive?? i thought its all wheel? well anyone also the power out come it has with the turbo i wanted to know if it is easy to tune to put out way better times, also i read the handling was awesome , i wouldl like to know what you guys think because in a couble years this could be a car i would like to purchase, thanks

Ummmm.... no. Not 4WD. And in a "couble" years (actually in approximately 1 year) the current body style will be done with.

ChMiPr, hang out with us longer on this forum and you'll learn a LOT of new information about the Mazdaspeed Protege. And no, the MSP is not a 4wd drivetrain. I'm actually happy they didn't go 4wd. Just imagine that only 170hp, we'll lose soo much power through the drivetrain.

Grimace - When are you expecting the car? Are you planning going to the Meeting of Mazda's on April 5th? If so, i hope you can join us on a MSP exclusive pre-meet on that date. More information to come.

i want to learn about alot of the stock turbo cars out there now, i'm only 18, i have a 95 red civic ex coupe, 5speed, power windows and sunroof its a nice first car to learn driving techniques and all, but i'm enlisting in the air force and i plan on getting a stock fast car, i was looking at the wrx, ms protege, thinking about 240sx sr20det swap, keeping my civic on the side dropping something into it to make it a nice road course racer, i also would like yamaha r1, but i'm right now doing my homework finding out the info i need so i can have a great car in a couble years, thanks guys

and that hp output for the ms protege thats terrible ,its turboed, come on

ChMiPr... remember although it is turbocharged it is still on the stock protege engine that produces 130 hp. And a gain of 40 hp is about average for any general turbo upgrade. It's what can be done to the engine/turbo/rest of the car that makes it a true beast. One fun thing about the MSP is while it is not perfect from the factory it is much further along that almost every other car in its class. Because it is further along that means that you spend less on upgrades in the performance area

Strider-

thanks guys, yea i guess i should test drive one before i judge it, thanks guys for the help, any of you guys moddied the ms for like around 200whp?

Limited Edition - Dealer just told me "Within 30 days of when they order the car they will get it." That was Wednesday the 18th of March they told me that.

Then on Thursday, I got a call asking me to come into the dealer, that there was some type of problem (but they couldn't tell me over the phone.) So, 1.5 hours later on the road, I get to the dealer to find out my application was rejected by Mazda Canada. They need a co-signer. That is bad enough by itself, since my salary is more than enough to cover the cost of the car a few times over a year... But not only that, the cosigner has to come in on the day the car arrives at the dealer.

My potential cosigner lives 4 hours away...

If I can't get around this cosigner BS, I may have to back out of the deal altogether.

I'm workin on the 200+ just like Steph. I am dynoing the car in 2 weeks to see what the stock numbers are then I should have the front mount and everything else done by the end of April...Later,

well aren't we all very ambitious. :D i would like 200whp. some nice new, forged internals, front mount intercooler, 3 inch turbo back, high flow straight through cat, straight through muffler, boost controler, new cams, and damn i'm set. i wish i had money.
