What did you pay for your CX-5?

Hey everyone. I'm thinking of purchasing a Mazda CX-5 so I decided to register instead of lurking. :) Anyhow, I'm looking to purchase a 2014 Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring with Technology Package. I was offered the below deal after some negotiating:

VEHICLE: $28,900.00
TAX: $1,806.25
DOC FEE: $150.00
LICENSE FEE: $180.10
PRE-TOTAL: $31,036.35
LOYALTY REBATE: -$500.00
GRAND TOTAL: $30,506.25

I'm going to ask for the break down on the license fee and ask them to halve the document fee (never hurts to try). So, this looks to be fairly decent, right?

In most counties, most of the license fee is legit (inspections, county tax, business tax, temp tag, etc.). Make sure you apply the loyalty rebate before you calculate taxes though.

If you check out the last 5-10 pages or so, you'll see that most of the good deals fall within the range that you got.

When you compare deals comparing one without a trade would give the best idea. But either way, it's hard to compare deals from different places, times, etc. You don't get good deals on negotiation skills alone. You need also need to be in the right place at the right time. That being said, you got a good offer, even if they don't take another cent off. Can you get better? Sure there is always someone out there who will get a better deal...just like there is always someone who makes more money, but if the deal makes you happy...just be re-assured that it's a pretty good deal.

I do want to give forum readers a hint though. When you check out edmunds or truecar for the invoice price, you'll see that the invoice on the CX-5 is much closer to the MSRP than most of the competition. It might seem that the mark-up on the CX-5 is lower than it actually is. But it's not the case, the invoice on the CX-5 is a bit inflated compared to the competition. Dealers know you look at the invoice :)

Use the forums for help but at the end of the day, nothing is cold, hard, and fast when it comes to price except for one thing: Only accept a price that you're happy with. Then it won't matter what someone else got and you don't need validation.

Then post your info and help other people out. Another poster bought around the same time as I did and we live in the same city. It was helpful.

MATR6, please stop using your deal as an example of what people can get unless you point out that you traded in a car in which the dealer was going to attempt to make several thousand on it according to your statement. It not fair to the new people who come here thinking they are getting ripped off by their dealer. I am not saying your deal or good or bad...it just can't be compared to others who have no trade in. So whether they make their profit off the new car your buying or the one your trading in...they are going to make their profit they want just to stay in business.
Others have gotten better deals than me w/o a trade in, so I'll just leave it to you to police my post every time & comment about my trade in.
Striker109 has a trade in also, look at the Mazda Loyalty rebate he put down.
Please read carefully bf commenting!

You can get a loyalty rebate if you or a family member own a Mazda, you don't have to be trading one in to get it.

Nice! So if I bring in my sister to buy a Mazda, she'll get $500 off?
Or family member living at same address?

I'm not a 100% sure. I think it needs to be the same address, but you can threaten to walk away and maybe they'll give it to you if you live at separate addresses. My future mother-in-law owns a Mazda, but I couldn't get the rebate since I'm not married yet.

Matr6,

I kind of knew no matter how I said it I would get you mad...sorry. I am glad you are trying to help others...I think it's great! Just lets compare apples to apples that is all I am saying. I must have missed the spot where he was trading a car in as it was his first post. Plus you can get the loyalty rebate for just owning a Mazda. You of course have to provide documented proof of ownership at my dealer which was the title of the car. But, you can also provide the current registration as well but I didn't since the car has not been driven in about 5 years. So in regards to the loyalty rebate...you don't have to trade in a car to received it just provide documentation you still own one. I will not make another comment again and I will continue to read your statement not because I am policing them but because I like reading what you and everyone else has to say. I think this forum provides a ton of information and your input is just as important as everyone else...including me (silly)

No worries. I didn't mention my trade in bc I seem others get better deals w/o a trade in so IMO, it's irrelevant.
I think ppl can get 'my deal' w/o a trade in or at least try & use it as a base to work off of.
If I was in the market, I'd use the prices posted here as attainable purchase prices, I wouldn't tell them it may be bc of my trade in that I might have gotten an excellent price.

That's my understanding. And it's a Mazda Corp. thing so the dealer doesn't take the hit.

With all the 2014 models being sold lately, I'm hopeful more new owners will register their vehicles on Fuelly. Currently there is only 1 (one) 2014 CX-5 listed (193 2013's)! Tracking your cars fuel consumption is fun and easy with Fuelly. Just save your receipts and enter them at your leisure. Or, if you are more tech minded and have a smartphone the Fuelly website shows you how to set up field tracking using the phone. I like the simplicity of simply saving all the receipts in the same place. This is a great way to monitor the health of your new baby as you watch your cars trends. An abrupt change can alert you that something has changed with your CX-5.

So, get with the program new 2014 CX-5 owners!

On the Mazda Loyalty Cash - you have to have had a Mazda titled in your or your spouses name within the previous 2-4 weeks, from what several salespeople told me. I sold my wife's previous Mazda6 a few weeks prior to buying her the CX-5, so as soon as I found the dealer I wanted to work with, I sent him the VIN to "lock in" the Mazda incentive. And yes, the incentive comes directly from Mazda and does not affect the local dealer.

Now I remember the sales guy making a copy of the title of my trade it. He said they'll get reimbursed by Mazda.

It amazes me how much the people here know about this car then the salespeople who job is to sell cars. When he made a copy of my title (it was old from 1987) he called me up and asked if I still had the car. I said of course I do...why? He said when he went to look at the title again (copy of it) it said VOID VOID VOID all in big letters across the front. I told him they probably do that so people don't use copies as originals. I think he felt stupid then. I did take a picture with my phone of the car with their quote and his name written on the car because of the dust so he could see it...but he never brought up the subject again.

Thanks everyone for the replies. The vehicle in question is a FWD and there is no trade involved. The $500.00 rebate would be subtracted from the invoice price. I just got lazy with my math and did it after I computed the taxes. :)

I see I'm getting a fair deal with the pricing. It's too bad I read the issues regarding the wheel weights in the other forum. I was set with the Mazda and now I'm torn between this and a Ford Escape 2.0L Titanium. Decisions decisions decisions.

You're not gonna buy a CX-5 bc of some extra wheel weights on a few wheels?!
The Escape has had so many recalls & one for possible engine fire.

There's no issues with the wheel weights if they balance the tire/wheel. If there is, they need to be re-balanced and then you have an excellent CX-5 instead of an Escape. If you get the Escape, you get what you paid for. Just my (2cents)

Price is ok. My white GT AWD with Tech Package was $29,200 bf TT&L.
So the $1250 difference bt FWD vs AWD equates to the roof rack & cargo cover (just got mine for $144)

I am wondering if $29,200 had the destination fee included or not? New to the forum so go easy on me :)
My dealer is quoting about $200 more for same + destination fee $795 + TT&L

I test drove the vehicle again. I got them to knock off another $600.00 and the inventory tax. I'm not sure I'm going to get a better deal locally without ticking off a few people. :P

Well the Escape's recalls were all on the 1.6 liter engine that had issues. I think I saw something about carpet hitting the pedal, but that didn't affect all of them.

He needs to check out my post here in regards to how much is too much according to tirerack...

I saw the post. However, 18+ weights is just excessive. It screams "poor manufacturing" to me (well at least on the wheels :P).

this is great forum guys!

Here is my cx-5 deal

CX-5 Grand Touring AWD + TECHNOLOGY PACKAGE
CRYSTAL WHITE PEARL MICA with SAND LEATHER interior
WHEEL LOCKS
REAR BUMPER GUARD
TRAILER HITCH (for my bikes)
Destination fee ($795)

$31050 + TT&L

I didn't bargain much and as I went their unprepared thinking, I will surely going to walk home after test drive (first with CX-5). But deal just got good enough for me to walk out without it ;)

Apart from road noise AND height (my 6 year old is having difficulty boarding it). Any solution for height assistance?
