What color to powdercoat my new RX8's?

8.5MS3 has the hella dopest wheels. Love that color.

I've finally found a set of RX8 myself but I'm going to run them with the stock paint for now. They're off a 2006 and have NO rash and really nothing wrong with them period. Can't wait to pick them up. Next year I'll decide what tire to run as my stock stones are just about toast.

Otherwise I would like to see what bronze would look like on my MGM some day.

I agree. 8.5MS3's wheels look awesome. I picked up my RX-8's and gonna get them PC'd Bronze. Dropping them off tomorrow!

Search threads started by me if you wanna see pics. Its called "what color to paint my rx8s" I think

Thanks for the compliments guys

Yes - I followed that thread.
I was speaking of pics of RichB's rims once he has them PC'd Bronze. I've seen some pics of Bronze RX-8 but not on a MGM. I think they were on a 6 that was metallic red or something. Some guy was selling them on a forum.

I'm sure Rich's will be a different bronze color because it seems nobody gets the same hue's or tints when they PC wheels like this.

I don't have an MGM, I have a Cosmic Blue. There is a pic of a cosmic blue with Broze RX-8's in 8.5MS3's thread about his wheels. By the way 8.5MS3's car pics are on page 6

PAINT THEM LIKE A FU*KING ZEBRA!!!!! OR GET SOME CHEETAH FUR AND GLUE IT ON!!

thats the hot s*** right now........

Ok - my bad. Thanks for clarifying.

You have a silver MS3 right? I would say any kind of silver tone is going to look pretty good. A graphite, gunmetallic, titanium, silver or the like.

pics! must see pics! ...then we can play photochop for different colors! lol

i think and dark bronze or gunmetal would look best, i'm thinking that'll be close to the color i'll choose for my stock wheel with snow tires on them.

quick photoshop of what it will look like...

Looks great to me. That bronze almost looks like it's a little lighter with more gold in it which would look great with that color car.

Not to thread jack, but what lugs ( if not MS3 stock ) can you run with RX8 rims? I'm hoping to pick mine up this week and need to know beforehand.

TIA

Powdercoating heating bad for rims?

I picked up a set of RX8 rims last night and they look pretty good. One pair is almost perfect with minor scratches and virtually no rash while the other pair were likely from the front of the car as they had a lot more brake dust and a bit of rash on one rim.

I've been thinking of having them powdercoated before putting my summer tires on and I spent some time searching the topic on the interwebs. I found someone mentioning the heat from powdercoating weakens the wheels and they can break under stress as a result. Can anyone vouch for this? One person mentioned anything over 200 degrees is a bad idea. That doesn't seem like much for aluminum to me. Even 400 degrees seems like it would be OK. What's the temp for most powdercoat ovens?

Personally I might run them as-is. I might also take the time to prep them really well myself this fall and have a guy I know and shoot them with 2 part paint and clear. This would be roughly half the cost of powdercoat based on what I'm seeing for prices around here, which is typically $300 to $500 a set.

find that person and smack them upside the head

aluminum melts at 1200*F

400* isnt gonna do s***, the metal doesnt even begin to anneal until around 900*

most ovens bake at 300-500 degrees

the temperature of your hood exceeds 200 degrees on a sunny summer day

god i hate idiots

Thanks,
I think it was on an EVO forum (lol2)

I'm going to call my paint guy and see what he has to say about shooting these for me.
