What cars can a stock P5 beat?

Guys, if you are going to race, at least race cars that are respectable.

Built Hondas, V8 Mustangs and Camaros, DSMs, etc. If you own a stock Mazda P3 or 5, you have no business taking a race seriously.

Who cares about a Solara? Maybe if you take your spare tire and jack out you could beat a lot more cars (see sig).

Please don't turn this into a damn ricer forum, looking for easy wins (well, not really since our cars are slow stock).

Sorry for the rant, but c'mon man. Your run in the mid 16s. Is it really worth getting in trouble for racing?

I'm fully against street racing. I see no problem with wanting to race cars in your class at the track however. I've owned cars fast and slow and I can find enjoyment in all of them. I think it's a little foolish to put tons of $$$ into a P5 to get into the 15's when, for example, you can go and buy an LS1 powered Z28 for less than $10 grand right now and run mid to low 13s' stock all day long, but to each his own I guess. I agree with 65racecoupe, I can't stand ricers who are all show, no go and talk nothing but s***.

The p5, protege was not designed to race. I guess everyone knows that. But i still believe it could smoke a Civic or corolla. After all and all The Protege Looks Way Better than those others.

The P5 finishes last...most of the time.

I have been chasing after cars for almost a year with my 2003 P5. I have an AEM Short Ram and a Ractive rear section exhaust. Depending on the day I have had some victories and some losses. It mainly depending on the temperature outside. I found when running it a temperature of about 60-70 degrees Farenheit my car performed best. I have been able to take down a couple Hondas and some Acuras. I think my best feat yet was on a Mustang. I am not sure how it happened, but I think the person driving it didnt really know what they were doing.

The worst loss I have ever had was against a Volvo S70. The car looked completely factory until I got to the line with it and they rolled down their window and I saw their A-Pillar, they had Turbo Gauges, RPM Gauges, and an AIR-FUEL ratio. It was at that point I was saying "oh s***" and then in the next 7 seconds, I was staring at their tail lights. I had them off the line, but as we all know it doesnt matter if you win by a second or a mile, that Volvo was way the poo ahead of me about an 1/8th of a mile down the road. I always thought of Volvos as being mommy mobile cars, but I will never think of them the same after that loss.

I think a lot of who we can beat depends on the conditions and what kind of "race" you are talking about. Off the line, a stock P5 isn't that great, but once you get moving, things are a lot better. I would not expect to pull great drag race times, but the car is great for autocrossing. Better tires are helpful, but the handling is great. As with most, I've beaten and been beaten. I like my P5 much more than my last 3 cars (94' camaro V6, 91' firebird formula V8, 91' 929).
