what carbon fiber parts would you want for the MSP?

fog light covers like wrx's and STI's can get would be pretty cool..to make em unique you could put the word "MSP" from a decal on em in the mazda font.

wouldn't hurt anything because they didn't copyright the font, it isn't saying mazda, mazdaspeed, or protege anywhere on it.

Be even cooler if you had a bunch of viynal around in, or close to, body color so you could put MSP over the wet(or dry) carbon for any car lol

but i might be thinking to far in advance lol.

yeah i might be able to optionally throw some vinyl in there. shouldn't be too bad.

i'm looking at the fender flares and it seems pretty do-able. just making sure i'm on the same page as everyone: it would wrap into the wheel well, probably get bolted into where the plastic... uh wheel well things... are, and wrap over the side and just cover the flares that are on there, right? similar to what it looks like DG does for the widebody kit?

seeing that pic made me think... would anyone be interested in cf "vortex generators" / shark fins that go on the EVO's?

Rear view mirror cover (like the cover offered in the Miata Mazdaspeed)
Ebrake trim, the section under the Ebrake handle that pops out.
Maybe a Ebrake handle overlay.
Possibly the Triangular sailfins that are on the interior that sit behind the side mirrors..
CF Rain guards, The In-channel ones like WeatherTech makes, not the double sided tape ones..
Oh yeah some one asked a while back about a CF piece that will lip around the the exhaust opening on the rear lip.

I'll think of more later

yeah the exhaust opening was one i had thought of as well.

i'm a little confused what you mean by a handle overlay for the ebrake... where the grip is, or the entire lever? ive seen people who have replaced the grip with CF ones, so if theres options out there already i'm less interested.

sailfins - where the tweeters are?

rear view mirror - good one

sailfins - where the tweeters are? Yes on the MSP, but i was thing for tthe P5's, Protege's, Etc....[/I]

exhaust guard, spoiler lip, and fog deletes are awesome ideas
i just made some custom fog deletes out of plexiglass, took me about an hour for 1 so CF shouldnt be much harder

well i only finished one lol there just circles cut from plexiglass and then i put matte black vinyl over them, they are pretty snug so im thinking just using double sided tape, im sure u could use some bolts or screws but im not too worried about it
ill try to post pics tomm when i finish them

So wait you've never worked with carbon fiber before?
that's correct, which is why i'm not going to start with the 03.5 lip, or the dual gauge cluster like i had originally considered. like ive said ive looked at a ton of material on how its done and talked with some people and think i'll be able to manage.
it's a learning process i'm sure, but i'd rather try to take some time now to give it a whirl than when i'm working 50 hours a week. i've managed to do pretty well with most other projects i've taken on so i have no reason to believe this one will end up as a disappointment.

er, why do you ask

CF is not a friendly material... it requires a pretty tender touch to come out correctly, without defects in the weave etc... and the tools to work it aren't cheap, if you cut corners, they show up faster in CF than a lot of other materials. I'm not trying to question your abilities, just know that anything with compound curves is going to be a nightmare.

yeah, which is why most of the things higher up on the list are things i can get a decent mold of without tearing my hair out, and won't have crazy corners to try and work in. ironically, the thing i'm most interested in personally (cluster surround) is probably the most complicated thing i'm reasonably considering at this point.
plus, i'm still in the research phase... trying to get a grip on how much stuff people want that i could reasonably do before i plunk down the $ to get some of the gear.

have you worked with cf all?

I've worked with fiberglass (both structurally in boats, and asthetically on cars), and will be doing some more fiberglass work hopefully this winter (though I was thinking I'd have to done by now, oh well). I'm seriously considering wrapping it in CF as a finish step.. but as far as any real CF work, I've shyed away for essentially the reasons I gave.

well thanks for the warning... this isnt supposed to be a "practical aspects" thread anyways... so quit raining on my parade!

lets hear some more ideas.

A rearview mirror cover, definitely. A CF 03.5 lip would be sick as long as there was a full CF bumper to go with it. Otherwise, it'd just look silly.

And for the record, I'd sell a kidney for some CF fenders...
