What BPV is for me?

Ya i've been reading and listening to videos all day, but I just need some opinions.

I really like the sound of a blow off. My roomate had a supra with a HKS and it made a cool hi pitch screetch whistle??? i dunno what to call it. BUt it was for sure an aire excaping made sound.

I want somethin like that, i see that I cant really run a BOV on the speed3 i dont know for sure why but that doesnt matter now.

So what BPV should i look at? I really liek the flutter and whoosh sound.

The HKS SSQV is vent to atmosphere. I think there is a recirculating kit you can buy for it. By that time, you have just spent a lot of money for a bypass valve and the sound wont be as pronounced.

You will need the adapter flange as well.

There are better options for the money, IMO.

I love the sound of the HKS VTA as well, but I will be going with the Forge BPV, function before fashion.

Edit* It looks like like $20 for the recirculating fitting, $55 for the CP-e flange kit, $40 for the SU flange, and $197 for the valve.

I guess the forge isnt a bad option, it doesnt sound to bad from what i've listened too.
Any other options i should look at?

PLUS I really need to get an intake for some sweet sound and performance. THink im gonna do cobb sri.
 
There is the Synapse as well, but it costs a good amount. There is the Turboxs hybrid. 50/50 VTA/recirc. which may be a good option for you, I cant remember the cost on this one, but its pretty affordable.
 
ANd the 50/50 part isnt like...only 50% bad?
does a 50/50 present any problems?

i assume its just half the air goes to at and half to recirc.
 
There have been mixed reports. Some dont get any popping at all with stock like driveability. Others get mild popping, but nothing too serious.
 
there is a group buy on the other forum for the hks ssqv bov with all necessary hardware. Only $185.
 
I got the HKS SSQV that I bought as a kit which you only have to bolt-on.
The other kits make you build the kit which makes you mess with the damned c-clip which is a major pain in the ass...

Just buy the direct bolt-on kit from PG... Two bolts and you are done!!

IMO, the HKS SSQV is the best BPV for the MS3. Best fit and function.
You don't have to mess with springs, shims, or tuning screws.

You can run the HSK in VTA, but you have to tune the car for it... Even in recirculation is still flutters and wooshes...its just a little quieter... Best sounding BPV!!! (2thumbs)

I second that on the HKS, i am torn between that one and the Synapse.. but i am slowly leaning towards the hks.. we will soon find out..
 
50/50 is best of both worlds be warned ppl will try to race you when you lift throttle.
 
still dont know what that means...

Thats the one I got from PG...

All I had to do was remove the stocker, rotate the stock recirculation hose, and install the HKS... Then go on a test drive and be amazed of the difference in performace...and not to mention the sounds... (lol2) (2thumbs)

This means that the stock recirculation hose does not work well with this combo: Cobb SRI (intake) and the HKS SSQV (BPV). To have a perfect fit, you would need to buy a longer recirculation hose.
 
The TurboXS hybrid valve is also getting a lot of good reports.
I think I might go with that one myself.

As far as intakes go, I have the Mazdaspeed CAI and it makes all kinds of happy "vvvvvvuuuussh-pwisssh" noises with the stock BPV.
I haven't been in any hurry to replace the valve since I'm not competing with the car and losing a pound of boost is not making me cry. In fact, it's helping me not lose my license.
 
I'll chime in on the HKS SSQV bolt on specific kit. It is extremely easy to install. However, the stock recirc hose really does not fit well no matter how you rotate it. It kinks a bit as your bending it upward (against the coupler for the intake). HOWEVER, what I did to fix this is I cut the stock recirc hose at the straight part, about 7-8 inches from where it attaches to your intake. I added a 1 inch diam. copper sleeve from Home Depot, and reattached the recirc hose (that has the bend in it). This makes adjusting the angle/rotating very easy. I also have about a 1/4 space between the 2 recirc piece now, and that additional length is enoug to avoid any kinking in that hose. Further, if I had to return my car to stock and swap back in the factory bpv I do not have to take my intake off to get at the clamp under the intake for the factory recirc hose. All I do is rotate at the copper sleeve, push the two pieces of the recirc hose together, remove clamps at that connection, and it appears stock again. I know that sounds like a lot, but it really is extremely easy and fixes the kink issue with the stock length recirc hose. I can take a pic if anyone wants one.

Now, performance wise, I love the HKS valve. Nothing to screw around with, shims, adjusting, etc. Spool up and throttle response is drastically improved. And just to set the record straight, the HKS in recirc still sounds AWESOME. I have a MS intake and along with the HKS valve in recirc it is still quite loud. Sounds like an animal scratching at the underside of the hood! The sound is wonderful and amazing and you wont be disappointed that its not VTA. '
