I've cast my lot in, gonna head to oahu and try and find some work. Pretty risky time in the economy but gonna go for broke!
Staying with a buddy, flying in on Apr 29th.
I spent last summer there, finished my thesis and defended it, graduated with my masters in December,...been scrimpin/saving sense.
Cant wait to return...even if i'm selling zippy's benefit chili.

Course, I'm probably the old fart at 31, and wont have a car 'cept perhaps my friends Honduh.
(He's not a car guy, i attribute it to him buying an automatic civic, when really his only prereq was for a manual transmission at the time)--caved due to time constraints.
I'll be in Aiea, just across from pearlridge, where i stayed last summer. I actually pseudo met a member from here that works at the Jiffy lube across the way.
(Was getting my friends civic inspected, saw a msp and turbo p5 in the lot...had to ask about the p5. heh
Was just a brief encounter.
Cant wait to get back and dig into some maui mike's and some malasadas!

you probably met jared at jiffy lube. cant believe he still has his car! thats awesome! ignore all the bad things about hawaii that were said. i would say most places you live wont have any of those problems that are listed. i love and embrace mainlanders that come to make hawaii home and love the culture and people. its the other people who disrespect the islands that i cant deal with or the people that live here that complain that it sucks. if you dont like it take the negative attitude to the mainland. youll see how much different it is there. maybe youll like it more, but i know i dont.

I'm definitly an island kinda guy....and dont listen to a lot of the criticism I hear...actually I find it surprising.
I'm an air force brat....and my family spent two tours at Hickam...(yeah I know...real tough!)
So yeah, I was there when I was really young, 0-5 ish (mokulele), but then also again from 7th-11thish grade. (aliamanu and radford).
It sucked moving away my senior year, all those years ago to tx. You never really know what you have, till it's gone. I was fortunate enough to be able to stay back on oahu last summer for 3 months (rent free), and bring my girlfriend....epic summer.! Really hit how i missed it.
I joke with my dad back here in tx that I need to get established back over there, so when he's old i can roll him out on the beach, douse him with Sunblock everynow and again. . . bring him a drink. He's a beach bum at heart too.
I cant wait. I never got island fever....ever. I think its folks that dont go out and do stuff that get it...I mean, I got certified to dive...windsurf, sailing (holder 14/cal 20) i'm sure I'm rusty, but cant wait to get back.
The danger is to piss away this opportunity by having all kinda fun...and not find a decent wage. We'll see how it goes.
Hopefully, the good times will continue...

Finally found a job 'ere.
While there are undoubtedly worse places to be unemployed, that was a pretty stress filled four months.
Now perhaps I wont have to be a vassal to my buddy whose been putting up with me all this time much longer. . .
By the way... anyone see the bright yellow 'simpsons' rx8 with the huge wing on the back around pearl city? That guy on 'ere?
Looks like i may just parlay this job search bit into residency yet. . .
