Ok I've had a stupid experience. To start of I was looking to get a little more boost out of my car. I decided to buy a Forge Wastegate, at the time i had an exhaust leak between my mani and turbo so i decided to have the mechanics put the new wastegate while they were replacing the gasket. After I got that done, with the Forge WGA installed I was getting no boost, my exhaust leak came back so i took it back to them to have them fix their mistake and to juss put my stock WGA back in. Now with the stock wastegate in theres pretty much no boost control with it. I don't think the diaphram is torn or anything bc it worked perfectly before. I think they adj. the acutator rod. My question is how long should the stock one be to get stock boost or what length should the Forge WGA be to get bout 7 or 8 PSI???
Please help I'm sellin the MSP saddly and don't want to sell it when it wants to over boost.

Thanks,
Ty

P.S The stock WGA only has about 35000 miles on it

First off, on a site note -- your sig is humongous, you need to resize it so that it meets the guidelines listed here.

Now, to address your problem .. while it'd almost be a little too convenient, it's entirely possible that your stock WGA chose to crap out while all this was happening. They die whenever the hell they feel like dying.

I also don't see why your mechanics would have fiddled with the stock WGA at all. Wouldn't make sense.

I never used the Forge WGA, so I'm afraid I can't give you any advice on that. What I can recommend is to buy an ATP WGA -- they give an extra pound of boost over stock, require no adjustment, and are fairly inexpensive. I used one on my MSP and it did an excellent job.

And please, for the sake of your MSP, don't try to sell it while it's overboosting. Chances are that the buyer won't know how fragile the stock rods are, will think the car can handle that much boost, and will blow the engine within a week.

With the Forge WGA.. I always thought they had a spring inside them that determined the boost amount.. for boosting more, you needed to upgrade the spring inside it, etc.

Wanted to add.. just get an ATP stock replacement. I think it's a 6 psi WGA. As a tip, I wouldn't up the boost AT ALL if you're going to sell it. You may just blow the engine yourself, then how close to selling it would you be?

Ok I lied I went out and tested it like 15 minutes ago and juss blew into the vaccum line and lets say it was like throwing a hot dog through a hallway.. I also took a look at my Forge wastegate, juss want to stated I did get the upgraded spring with it when i bought it. I tried to tug on the acuator rod juss to see how hard it was and it was like it was stuck... I'm guessing thats y i wasn't boosting with it in. Any Idea y it'd be stuck??

I'll take care of the sig asap haha

What should the stock vacuum be when at idle?? I replaced all the stock lines in that area. When I idle I'm at 8-10lbs vac. and I know its not right. As soon as I plug the line going to the wastegate it jumps to 20lbs. I'm guessing a bad wastegate. No reason to lose 10lbs though the wastegate I would figure? Unless these cars are crazy and possessed.

Holly Hell M Spec... Wats up man... I'm the Air Force dude that bought the Black MSP from up there in good old Minot... it's been 2 years now, so I wouldnt be surprised if you didnt remember that...

just a question... was that picture in your sig taken by the baseball diamonds by the airport?

If the actuator was stuck closed you would be getting more boos than you wanted, if it was stuck open then your mechanics are incompetent for installing a wastegate that left the flapper in the open position. Shows a complete lack of understanding as to how a turbo system works.

Where did you buy the Forge from and was it new?

talk to ken, he'll either help you figure out whats wrong, or make it right if he thinks theres something wrong with the WGA...

word hes a good guy, helped me out a bunch, I'm sure he gets sick of seein my posts lol

I just installed the $65 Wastegate from Protege Garage. Sits at 19inchs vacuum now and 22 when I'm driving and let off the gas. No more fuel cut or boost spikes either. Also the EGT temp is way lower seeing that the turbo does not have to work so hard anymore. Redlined 1st thru 4th no issues.
